Is there a noticeable real world difference between a 2019 Pro and an M1 Air/Pro?

I have had an m1 air and ended up selling it and now I have a 2019 15" Pro with these specs
2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro 555X 4 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

My Air had the base 8 gigs and 256 gig

I don't really notice any difference in my casual uses, the main reason I am thinking about going back to the M1 is because the smaller size and battery I think is better. I don't really use a computer for much most of the time other than general browsing, YouTube and occasionally will import pics and videos and do very basic editing. When I am home most of the time I will have it connected to my LG Monitor


If you were in my situation would you just keep the 15" pro or get another m1 Air?

I use a 16/512 M1 Air and a 32/2TB 16" i9 2019 Mac on a regular basis. In general, the Air is faster for everything I do. Battery life is tremendously better and I've come to prefer carrying a smaller computer, especially one that has no fan.

I would have said that the MBA was a better choice for your use case, but on the the other hand you're not using your computer enough to really justify bouncing around computers over and over again, so if you're satisfied why are you thinking of trading computers?

If your usage is light, I'd save the cash and keep what you have. I love my 14" M1 Pro, but I realized I would have been happier keeping my 2019 16" base model that cost me half the price, and am currently selling the 14" anyways due to needing a Windows laptop.

My base model M1 Air is by far the best computer I've ever owned. The Pro models are tempting but in all seriousness for my workloads (mostly browser based work) it'd be overkill.

Outside of performance, the biggest thing for me is completely silent operation.

For your use case of doing very light work, you won't be able to tell much of a difference between the two. Basically comes down to if you want to deal with the hassle and money to swap computers again for a smaller size and better battery life.
