Is there a software out there to just back up stuff you want. For example, I wanna do hard reset my iphone but then want to restore only the text messages. Is there anyway to backup texts and then import them to the iphone?
I know itunes does backup but it does the whole phone. If there is sth wrong with the software, its backup as well and there is really no point to restore.

    Any advise appreciated..

There is an app in cydia for this. It's called iTextUploader.

I can't speak of its usefulness though

I don't know of a way on a non jailbroken phone. I think that the iTunes backup does not have any settings.

Syphone. (Mac only, jailbreak NOT required.)
It reads all of the backup files and has all text messages that were backed up through iTunes. You can save conversations as pdf files.
