Is there a tool to roughly translate

I am making research for family trees and family books. Is there a tool or method available to translate english to French and vice versa.

There's a translation widget included with OS X that will translate from French to English and vise versa. HTH

Google Translate is good to copy a paste full sentences and text.
For individual words, I use http://www.wordreference.com you can see the many translations for different words and the forums there are also usually a good help.
