I've lost my music library due to a faulty HDD. It's not the end of the world as I have it all in iTunes on my MacBook; plus, I uploaded all my songs to Google Play Music some time ago.

Problem is, I can't see a way in either Play Music or iTunes for downloading (sideloading on the Mac) to a new folder. I'd like to do this in case I get another device I want to put music on.

As far as I can tell, you can't re-download the music permanently from Google Music.

Download music to listen offline
You can download music you've purchased or added to Google Play to your mobile device or computer so you can listen when you don't have an Internet connection. If you subscribe to Google Play Music, you can also download subscription tracks to your mobile device.

Note: Signing out of your account will remove downloaded music from your device.

If it's on your MacBook, is it not on there as ACC\MP3 files, etc?

It seems that with music manager I can download all 9000 odd of my songs to my Mac. Thanks for the link. I had a feeling that trying to extract them from iTunes would be difficult. Plus with Play Music they are all in mp3 which I prefer if I'm going to put them on a non-apple device.

iTunes stores all music files in a library called 'iTunes Library". In case you want to move iTunes folder to another one, you can change iTunes library location in iTunes settings.
