Is there a way to convert AVI files to AVCHD?

My plasma has an SD card slot, but it only plays AVCHD video files...is there a tool I can convert it on the iMac?

Not really, as AVCHD is an acquisition format not a distribution format.
What exact TV model do you have? Can the following help as alternative?

What exact model? Does it ONLY accept .mts or similar AVCHD formatted files? I guess, you already looked into the manual?

Sorry for the late reply...

It's a 50X10 model. I checked the manual, unfortunately it only accepts AVCD format. Ironically, I also have a Panasonic camera which shoots FHD in that format, so all I need to do is pop out the SD card & slide it into the tv set...

If you mean AVCHD, then that is because it is a acquisition format and not a widely spread distribution/delivery format. Maybe this can help?

See this is the kind of **** that is just maddening. Panasonic could have chosen h.264/AVC, MPEG, hell WMV and added value but instead they choose AVCHD???
