MacOS has a "fake HDR" on the Studio Display that kicks in when viewing HDR content. Basically it cranks the display backlight up and cranks everything else down, so you see brighter highlights and such as if it were HDR, but it's not true HDR because it washes out the blacks, which doesn't look that great.

Is there a way to disable this, but only on the Studio Display? I know I can turn it off in Safari and in the Photos app, but then it will be off for my Macbook Pro's display too, which supports real HDR and I want it enabled there.

I poured through the settings and couldn't find anything. What's funny is I liked this feature at first but over time have noticed it makes things look not so great more often than looking good.

Open System Settings, hold down option (alt) key, and click on Displays. There will be a new option available to disable EDR.

Nope, no such option. Interestingly if I search for EDR there's an option listed in the search results for High Dynamic Range but clicking it does nothing.
