Is there a way to make an alpha-numberic menu list in Notes?

I'd like to make the parent menu be numerical (123) and the submenu to be alphabetic (123).
I can do it in TextEdit, but just can't get it to work in Notes.

Notes will create a numbered, bulleted, dashed or checklist list format, but not an alpha list. You'd have to do that manually.
