Is there a way to use the keypad method for sms instead of the keyboard?

thanks

LOLOLOL WHY!!! Sorry that made me laugh. I assume you mean like on a phone with no keyboard. Funny to me as I know a few poeple that could type a hole letter with a cell phone using the number pad without looking. If they had a iPhone they would have to relearn like you I assume. Sorry for laughing at you ;)

To actually answer your question - no there isn't a way to do it at the moment. Maybe an app will come out to do it, but I doubt it.

You will just have to learn to use the keyboard.

I would like this feature too.

For me, its not a question of relearning. I can type decently enough on the iPhone keyboard. My issue is that to be most effective, you need to use both hands - one to hold the phone, and one to type with. Using a number pad would make it much easier to write text on the phone with one hand (thumb).

Wow. Must be a generational thing. I think you people are nuts.

I have found that a good way to type is by using ur right thumb to do all the typing, but have your left thumb press the spacebar. That way your left hand can still hold the phone well, and it speeds up your typing (although typing with 2 thumbs is still quicker, but harder to get it accurate).

hahah

thats like me asking can I go back to using my computer without a mouse!! come on people!!!!

I hold it with both hands and type with both thumbs - can't stand typing with only one hand.

Wow

have any of you complainers had your iPhone for over a few weeks? Because I really can't imagine how someone would prefer keypad texting after owning an iPhone. I got a chance to compare the two methods when I sold my 1st gen iPhone before buying a 3G. I went an entire month without an iPhone. It was hard, but I did it. Over that month I came to appreciate my iPhone. For the obvious reasons...(regular cell phone internet just sucks...etc) But I was also forced to text using a keypad. Omg! so frustrating! You're doing 3x the work as typing on an iPhone and it doesn't corrrect your spelling. Once you learn to trust the autocorrect feature, you should be able to type well above the accuracy and speed of a keypad.

I agree. With only a couple days' practice, I can already type more quickly and accurately on my iPhone than I ever could with any other mobile device, including those with full QWERTY keyboards.

I type with both thumbs most of the time. For even more speed, I set it on the table and tap with my two index fingers. It helps that I put the Invisible Shield on the phone as this makes it more grippy for the thumb typing. Before I had that, I worried it would slip out of my hands while I typed.
