Question I have then is what kind of hook up would you need for aftermarket systems? I have an Alpine and wanted to have my iPhone be my source of music for the longest time.

I have Kensington's Liquid Aux

Works great and the remote is handy to avoid distractions while driving.

I have the same one, doesn't work in a 96 Audi A4 as the way the plug is designed it doesn't stay upright. The rubber stopper around the end isn't big enough.

Also it said on my 3G that it was a non-compatible accessory and when I played music through it without airplane mode on, the transmitter was just overpowered.

I believe I got that notice once. I just pressed dismiss and made sure it wasn't in airplane mode. I know I've received phone calls and emails (didn't check those) while playing music.

I plug it in at least twice a day and haven't seen it since. Didn't get any notices on my iPod Touch or GF's 3G.

Is it possible that you didn't plug it in all the way? That happened to me once with my 2008 Universal iPod Dock.

Do you use it with the headphone jack plug thing or just the 30-pin connector? (I'm interested now...)

I just purchased the $25 one. It works great. I already own an FM Transmitter.I rarely use it because it is such poor sound quality. The new one is a hell of a lot better.I connected the headphone jack so I could make hands free phone calls.Whilst it works, and my voice apparently comes through very clear, the other person can hear themselves(echo),which is a bit offputting.I assume theres nothing that can be done about that?

I was using the 30 pin connector so I could charge up. I'll give it another try today, I really like how it sits the phone up...

Try make the calls w/ just the phone's speaker.

i'm guessing there is a small delay between what they say and it being transmitted over the radio.

Let me know if that works. Like I said, I never use that headphone connector and just use the speaker.

lol. The positioning of the phone is actually the reason why I bought it. I wouldn't really want to read maps or anything, but listening to (and changing) tunes is just sweet.

What is this, 1994?
Who the heck has a cassette player?

I do. My '06 Audi A4 stereo has a 6 disc in-dash cd changer, xm satelite radio, and yes, a tape player.

I use a tape adapter in the tape deck for my iPod. Sounds much better than any FM transmitter I've ever used.

(my '99 Nissan also had a tape/CD stereo)

With my old car I used this Belkin FM transmiter to listen to my iPhone. One end plugs into the cigarette lighter (not shown) and you plus the other end into the headphone jack then select a station that is not in use.

...but my new car has a built in USB and Line-In input which both work great with my iPhone. I just use the charging cable and connect it to the USB port and the iPod interface displays on the stereo display and it also charges it at the same time.

+1 for Dice Electronics kit. Had one installed today in an E46 BMW. Works great, I can still use Copilot to navigate and change tracks etc using steering wheel controls.

Similar problem- need to play an iphone without casette, auxiliary input, or FM

I have been reading forums all day and cannot find an acceptable solution.
I have a Corolla 2005 so I do NOT have auxiliary input. I also do NOT have a cassette player. I do NOT want to use an FM transmitter.

I know there are other options besides the three that I ruled out above. Can someone please tell me what I need to buy in order to play my iphone through my speakers? I would also like the iphone to charge at the same time.
