I just got the X and have never used a case but the price tag and all glass design worries me. I went to Best Buy and tried a few on, but they all made it very difficult to use to phone comfortably and efficiently and when I took it off it was like night and day.

It was so significantly easier to use without a case that I’m now looking for 3rd party insurance and cost to replace a broken back/front. What would my options be for this?

Apple Leather all day long. I've tried tons of cases over the years looking for the perfect one with all my iPhone variations. There were plenty I liked, but none that hit every sweet spot. I picked up an Apple leather for my xs max, and will never own any other case. Amazing feel and form factor that blends perfectly with the phone.

Just look for any thin case. While they don't provide all that much protection for drops they should help avoid things like scratches in the glass and protect the corners a bit.

while I was initially sceptical about the apple cases not covering the bottom of the phone from a protection point of view, it is actually great from a usability perspective. no hitting the case when doing the gestures given how small the bottom bezel is

I’m with the others! The Apple leather.case is the best if you want the least intrusive case possible. I’m like you and never used a case before. I hated and still hate cases for the most part but when I bought the XS max with the all glass design and the price I’ve paid, I had no choice to buy one and after tested a couple of them, the apple leather one fits perfectly and minimal plus it’s classy and confortable in hands and the phone doesn’t feel too bulky (or it’s minimal at best)

Another vote for the Apple leather case. I've had one on my X for a good majority of the year I've owned it. I've tried several cases along the way and the only one that can hold a candle is Apple's silicone case.

Your best bet is the Pitaka MagCase (not the Pro). It's by far the closest you'll get to using the phone naked. The top and bottom is exposed and the case just snaps on to the back. It's the case I've used on all of my previous iPhones. It offers drop protection (my niece has dropped my phone a few times). I have the case myself, but am currently using a different case (I wind up going to the Pitaka once the "honeymoon phase" is over). Here are some pictures I found online for reference:

I disagree as the closest you'd get to using the phone naked is if the sides are exposed, not the top/bottom. You grip the phone from the sides, so if there's nothing there adding width to the device then it's the ideal naked grip. It's a big reason why I chose the case I linked to above.

I didn't see the case you linked when I wrote my reply. You're right - yours is definitely closer. Mine's not too shabby either, though; but I think OP might prefer your case more.

I'm a fan of your case & considered it. I just needed a front & rear lip.

Agreed. How much is it to replace a shattered back/front on the X?

imho this is the best case out there

Lol. I like the Fusion a lot too. My all time favorite is actually the Zugu iPhone case but unfortunately they don't seem to make iPhone cases anymore.

I have the Fusion for my iPhone 6+ (but I used the Zugu case for the 6+ most of the time until recently and have gone back to the Fusion) and my XR. After browsing through too many feedback and reviews this past week, I feel like I should be happy with my Fusion for my XR as it has almost everything I want in a case.

It feels like a good balance of size and protection, with the standard "drop protection corners", good lip height even with a tempered glass on, responsive buttons, and raised corners on the back. And today I just noticed it has *slightly* higher upper and lower front lip a little like the Mous case. There's nothing wrong with the Fusion..but I'm itching to try out a few more cases. Lol

Not sure of the exact figures, but the back is much more expensive to replace. Both aren't cheap though...

It's another reason I like my case - the matt backing provides a layer of protection (albeit minimal) from scratches & also fingerprints (which I detest).
