is there any chance that Apple will release another iPad Pro later this 2020 fall? Maybe with A14X processor and Mini-LED screen or something significantly improved / change?

Honestly?... yeah, with how they did a very soft “update” with iPad Pro 4, they did a spec bump like what they do with MacBooks or iMacs, and they are heading toward the iPad being a more Mac-like device so I could see them doing updates like Macs. But that’s just one guy’s opinion.

i'm a little hesitant right now, whether to buy this new iPad Pro or not, because I worry that the same thing that happened to the iPad 3 and iPad 4 in 2012 will be repeated, they launched two iPads in the same year, iPad 3 at the beginning of the year, and iPad 4 at the end of the year

I can't see it myself. They update the iPad Pro around every 500 days.

Could they introduce an entirely new model though that distances its self from the Pro? Yes, but again unlikely.

To be clear, the rumours of a mini-LED iPad Pro are so far only for the 12.9" model.

They predict fall, but it should be noted that the current iPad Pros were originally predicted for Q4 2019 to Q1 2020. I get the impression that Ming-Chi Kuo's predictions tend to err on the early side of actual release dates. So, if he says fall 2020, it could very well be fall, or it could be Q1 again (assuming it's released at all).

I have to ask myself, do I realistically want to wait 8-12 months more for an iPad release, knowing that the existing rumours don't even include an 11" model at mini-LED's Apple launch? Let's see:

A14X vs A12Z: I don't really care that much. The much, much more important spec upgrade here is 6 GB RAM IMO.

5G vs 4G: I would have preferred to have 5G of course, but it seems our carriers are going to be charging a significant premium to use 5G. Also, I haven't completely decided yet if I'll get a cellular model anyway. I'll have to think some more on this topic. I got cellular for the wife's iPad 7, but she never uses it, aside from the rare times she goes on a train trip to another city or whatever. I'm leaning toward getting cellular though, and then taking her 4G LTE SIM to use.

Mini-LED: This is what I'm really looking for. I'm curious though how much of an improvement it would be, since there isn't really any truly defined specific spec or quality definition of mini-LED. Based on the technology implemented, which is basically a tarted up version of FALD, it could represent a significant upgrade in black level performance, or it could be a small incremental upgrade. Plus, the rumours still are that it's only for the 12.9" model, at least initially.

BTW, I would have been more inclined to buy next week if I could get the Magic Keyboard with it, but I suspect that COVID-19 has delayed the item, hence the new May release date. I'm not really that interested in getting a new iPad Pro without a keyboard, so I'm prepared to wait at least a little while. Not only do I want a keyboard paired with it, I want a case too, and the Magic Keyboard acts as both. I suppose I could just buy a $20 case for it though in the meantime. I find it amusing that the 4th gen cases for it already exist on Amazon from small third party resellers, with Prime shipping.

I'm guessing iPad Pro XDR, 12.9" slotting in and/or replacing the highest end configurations of the just released model, something like:

Early 2020 iPP 12.9:
128GB - A12Z, 6GB RAM, $999
256GB - A12Z, 6GB RAM, $1,099
512GB - A12Z, 6GB RAM, $1,299

Late 2020 iPP XDR 12.9:
512GB - A14X, 8GB RAM, $1,399
1TB - A14X, 8GB RAM, $1,599

I don't know but i am still trying to understand that and decide if i want to update to 2020 iPad pro or wait a little more, but my 1st gen iPad pro 12.9 starting to show it's age on some image manipulation apps, or shapr3d would definitely benefit from the spec bump of the newer models (2018 or 2020).

With the A14X chip vs A12Z, more than the performance bump, which in any case both of them would be plenty faster than my 1st gen 12.9 iPad PRo, I thought that the new A14x would be also more power efficient according to the rumors..etc that i had read, and longer battery life for me would have been a welcome edition, especialy since my iPad Pro doesn't last that long anymore (it's normal, i have it almost for 4 years now) so i may have forgotten how much an iPad Pro's battery lasts.

I would love the Mini Led as well, especialy for the deep blacks but then again, i dont know if i would want to buy Mini LED when it is still on it's first generation on the iPads, as i dont know if there will be serious 1st gen bugs/problems.

I would also like to know if they improved the alluminium structre of the iPad Pro on the 2020 pro versions.

I can't wait to see hands-on reviews and I would also love to see the review of the new Logitech keyboard with the trackpad (Combo Touch) hoping that the same exact model will come to the pro models as well as i dont like the implementation that they used on the Folio case. I love the idea of kickstand and detachable keyboard for when i need to draw/sketch which is the primary thing that i use my iPad Pro for.

BTW, I can get edu pricing here in Canada:

Retail:
CAD$1049/US$723: iPad Pro 11" 128 GB WiFi
CAD$1249/US$861: iPad Pro 11" 128 GB WiFi + Cellular

Education:
CAD$979/US$675: iPad Pro 11" 128 GB WiFi
CAD$1179/US$813: iPad Pro 11" 128 GB WiFi + Cellular <-- I think I may get this one.

Decisions, decisions...

BTW, as you can see, this year we in Canada actually have much cheaper pricing than in the US for a change, but that's partially because our dollar recently tanked. :(

It was rumoured for fall but if you remember they predicted October/November for these ipads too so who’ to say it won’t be march next year? I will be getting this new pro 12.9 but not decided on 128GB or 256GB.

If you recall they did release an iPad in the fall right after a spring release, and the level of negativity was immense - at least from the buyers of the spring iPad. The fall model, I memory served fixed a number of short comings from the earlier release.

I can't see Apple doing this ever again, If they were planning on an A14x, they would have rolled out the release now with it. Mini-LED is not ready for prime time, at least in terms of larger applications like an iPad. I suspect the cost is the major factor.

The bottom line, if you need one now, buy it, if not wait. Apple will be releasing a new iPad, it just won't be until 2021

Mini-LED is most definitely ready for prime time, and in fact it's already out in TVs. Cost is not a huge factor and actually, mini-LED is a marketed as a lower cost alternative to other technologies (like OLED).

I agree with the 2021 prediction.

I actually am now just wanting to know if the 3rd iPad Pro supports hdr10 and Dolby vision, lol.
Apple.com says this 4th one does, but it’s display tech is no different than the 3rd.🤔

Never mind, found that it does.
Yes!
That gives me another reason to not get this version. I’ll wait to see what this possible MiniLED iPad Pro rumor turns into.

I think you have to look at it in the context of what Apple was planning to do with the rest of the iPad range.

The Air is an important model for Apple due to the size of its target market. The last one was released in March 2019 and I think it likely that Apple was planning to release a new version in 2020.

I don’t know what form the update would take, whether it would just be incremental or a full redesign incorporating Face ID, etc, but it is likely that the device would at least use the A13 processor with 4GB of ram.

From a marketing point of view, it would be strange for a mid-range model to have a higher designation of processor than the top of the range, even though the A12X and A12Z are far more powerful than the A13. That, and the fact that the recent update to the Pro line was relatively minor, suggests that Apple could have been planning another Pro model this year. I would have anticipated it being released either before or at the same time as the new Air.

I’ve used the past tense because I believe that recent events will have disrupted Apple’s timetable. It will be far more important to them to ensure that the iPhone 12, or whatever it’s called, is released this year.

Apple could release another iPad Pro this year with 15” display, 4K resolution, A14X with 3Ghz, 12 Core GPU.

Is it possible? Yes. How likely is it? That's impossible to predict outside of Apple insider info.

Jon Prosser posted this on Twitter:

"New 5G iPad Pro coming towards the end of this year (barring any further delays). A14X chip. Same everything else."

Interesting. How reliable is this guy?

To summarize that thread:

No more iPad Pro WiFi releases in 2020. All will remain A12Z.
iPad Pro Cellular to get 5G in 2020, along with A14X, but with no other changes.
No mini-LED iPad Pro in 2020. That won't happen until 2021.

So basically, if you're good with WiFi or LTE cellular, then buy now. If you want 5G, wait another 8 months or whatever. If you want mini-LED you'll be waiting another year or so.

Really doubt it.. It's not a similar comparison. The iPad 3 was a big oops by Apple when they realized how under-powered it was to push the "retina" display. The 2018 IPP hasn't even been pushed yet by the apps currently out.

I hope we get into a stage of iPads where you can keep a device for a few years and not feel crippled. My former MBP 2015 still hums along just fine (daughters machine now). My MBA 2011 can handle most basic tasks I throw at it. Can't say that for previous gen iPads. If I spend 1K+ on a device I'd expect 3-4 years of support and usage.

Bottom line is, like I said, the 2018 hasn't been taxed yet. What more innovation can we expect? I'm not in the IPP replacing my MacBook camp, so I don't pay attention of magic keyboards and the like.

he was spot on this week about updates....

even now a 2020 iPad Pro it's just a tad faster and 5G....no mini LED
