So, sometimes I need to use my wife’s car. Every time I do this and she’s not with me I get this message. I can turn it off for the remainder of the day but after that it just comes back again. I can’t reassign it to my Apple ID as she would then have the same problem and she uses her car far more than I do. It’s a minor annoyance but is there any reasonable workaround to stop it?

Most cars have two sets of keys. Use your own key instead of hers with the AirTag on it. My wife has her keys and I have mine.
Ah yeah should’ve said the other key is with her sister who also uses the car but lives across the road.

I’ve been searching for a while now to find a way around it and looks like the easiest option is just to tap the acknowledgement on days I use it.

I have same problem when I go for a ride on the bike, says I left my car keys home. No problem, at least I know it is working. I have a used MB SUV and it only had one key when I bought it, new keys are $400-500, and must be programed at the factory, that is why I keep track of them.

Until Apple enables something akin to Family Sharing there is not a way around this, other than your own key to her car. As that'd be a third key it's likely an expense you don't wish to incur.

That's a different matter. You can turn off "Notify When Left Behind" if you wish.

IMHO there's not a lot of reason to have that enabled for car keys. It's pretty self evident you've left them behind when you get to your car.

The best option is to get a third key for the car, but tapping the acknowledgement or removing the AirTag from the keyring are certainly less expensive options.

Is there any way I can stop my phone telling me I have my wife’s car keys?

You can either mute your phone or get a divorce……..The choice is yours! ?

The sound you heard, was the point doing mach 5 above your head...

Your original sarcastic reply was obviously intended to imply that the idea of acquiring a second/additional key was some sort of unreasonable suggestion along the lines of buying a whole new car. I don't think it is, and I think that's what the other poster was trying to say.

Because and it is and it was.
The original question was "how can I make AirTags do this thing that I want" and so the answer should be in the lines of "you can" or "you cannot" not, "well, why don't you stop the situation from happening".

I'd much rather someone give me a suggestion on how to avoid the situation vs. simply telling me there's no solution. In any case, his suggestion was not absurd like buying a new car would be. That's why your "joke" didn't really make much sense in context. Now, if a new key cost about half the price of a new car, then it would've actually been funny ?

I have the same issue. I don't understand why there isn't a button to "unfollow a specific AirTag".

I have three AirTags: dog, backpack, keys. Obviously I do not have to take my backpack every time I leave the house but when I leave it behind, my BF (remaining at home) keeps getting notified about the AirTags on his iPhone.

A simple "I know AirTag "Name XY - please stop notifying me" button would be enough.

I have also been getting sick of being notified about his AirTag so I did the drastically step of simply turning off "Find My Network" on my iPhone all together.

Of course, but it should be a solution to the problem :)

Buying a new set of keys is not the solution.

I disagree. It is a solution if it stops the "problem" (in this case, an annoying alert). It may not be the most efficient solution, but it is one solution. Reading through this thread, though, it seems no one so far has come up with a more efficient solution yet. This may be a current design limitation with AirTags until Apple updates the software to allow a workaround (e.g. a "Never alert me about this AirTag" option).

Based on this thread I have a question. I just put a new AirTag into my (our) golf cart for tracking in case it is stolen. When my wife drives it she NEVER is notified there is a tracker nearby. Shouldn't she be?

Is the AirTag activated to your phone and does she have an iPhone? Does she have FindMy network enabled?

How long does she ride around in the cart before returning home? It takes at least a couple hours and usually several more (as I understand it). Efore the notification occurs. If the cart come back home to where you are within that time there wouldn’t likely be a notification
