Or rather, podcasts.

Sometimes I'm on the bus, and I don't feel like scrummaging around for my headphones, or putting them on, but I also don't want to use the speaker.

Is there a way to just listen through the earpiece?

Yeah, I guess that might be the only way. I've done that before, walking around with my iPhone upside down.

Short of some jailbreak app I'm unaware of, I don't there's any way to pipe your iPod music through the ear piece.

Maybe someone knows some tip I don't ... ?

Wait until 3.0 comes out and use your bluetooth.

Haha weird. I was actually at the car wash today waiting and was thinking the same thing. Would be nice to hand it off to the earpiece.

Download EarPlay - Play Music Through iPhone Earpiece

https://appsto.re/in/PgCwfb.i

EarPlay is a simple application which plays the music that is in your Apple Music Library through the iPhone's earpiece. Just choose a track and put your iPhone on your ear like you would do if you were on a call and the track starts playing through the earpiece. If you move it away, the music pauses and resumes when you place it back on your ear like magic! EarPlay has Voice Actions to control your music. You can just say 'NEXT', 'PREVIOUS', 'SHUFFLE' and 'REPLAY' to control your music in a way like never before. A haptic feedback will let you know when the Voice Action has been performed. The ability to play your favourite Music through the earpiece, good looking UI, animations and Voice Controls make this app a must have app for all the music enthusiasts.

Well if you're hand is covering the back, then no one will know your phone is upside down. They may just find it strange you never say anything into it.
I would take it even further and be so bold to suggest no one will notice. As people walking around with phones to their heads is no longer unusual. If anything someone may ask where is your phone, these days. If you don't have it out and to your head.

Also as you advance in years, you will become far less concerned what random strangers think. Believe me, I speak from experience.

you guys realize you took this back from the dead from like years ago, right?
Well, to be fair, it was dug up with a suggestion that is on topic, so seemly still relevant (although something that feels more like an advertisement in a sense).

I reckon the AirPods will be perfect for this scenario. Easy to removed and use one at a time.
