I have the 15pro with the 13mini in a drawer. For $300 to me it’s worth hanging onto. Use it for when I go jogging or doing something I don’t want to risk ruining my 15pro on. Is there a way to simply have it to switch to when I’d like to use it?

You'll need two SIM cards and two cell plans, then iMessage/sms can go to both. You'll only get calls on the main phone (I think) but it can be forwarded to other phone.

you need a second sim for 13 mini. Check If carrier supports the same number on multiple iPhones. I doubt it but never hurt asking.

So there’s no eSIM way to swap to the other phone? Like hit a button and activate the other one instead?

It depends on who your cellular service is with. I have T-Mobile and I switched between 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max for a year. Go to settings\cellular\add eSim. I believe as long as both phones have iOS 16 or higher?

In the US, the three major carriers all support eSIM Quick Transfer. You do have to wait a couple of minutes for the transfer though, it's not instantaneous. Probably the same amount of time as finding a paper clip and swapping physical SIMs.

If you're on Google Fi, you can get a free data-only physical SIM for your 13 mini. That would give you iMessage and FaceTime audio/video calls without any added cost.

For jogging and stuff like that, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is way better than an iPhone mini.

Yes, it can do texting and calling too like a iPhone.

If you are worried about damaging your iPhone 15 Pro and are “babying” it, why not get AppleCare+ instead?

It is darn near impossible to ruin a 15 Pro unless you drop it in a paint bucket or off a cliff. Sell the 13 and buy an Apple Watch Ultra.

Transfer eSIM back and forth is tedious for me😊. So, it is not worth it for me. Some individuals might not mind doing it. If 15 pro lines used physical sim, sure, the switch between phones be simpler to switch back and forth.
Use a good case to protect your 15 pro when jogging.😊
Wish the best on your decision 😊

I have an 11 Pro Max as my primary phone and my old 6s Plus as my secondary phone. Both are using physical SIMs, but my secondary line was upgraded to unlimited data about a year and a half ago so all I pay for that line is the tax.

The 6s Plus goes with me on walks in the morning. Since it's a separate active line I have my 11 PM and 6s Plus forwarding calls and text messages to each other.

Get an Apple Watch.
Just curious…can the Apple Watch run Google Chat and can you email from it? I work from home and some times I'm out. I need to be able to communicate with a particular co worker via Google Chat and the rest via email.

Will the Apple watch still communicate with my phone if I am 20+ miles away from it?

My community has concrete sidewalks. I've dropped phones on concrete before and have never had a good experience. I don't doubt the iPhone 15 is tougher, but is it going to survive a fumble from chest height to solid concrete?

Oh…and assuming no case. I don't use cases.

No, it won't work with google chat as there isn't a google chat app for the watchm, you'll get notifications but won't be able to respond. The wife and I primarily text via facebook messenger (she uses a Pixel) and it doesn't let me respond via the watch either. I would say it's a hassle, but I don't use the watch to respond to iMessage either; it's just a glorified notification device and fitness tracker.

The watch will work at any distance assuming you have either cell or wifi connectivity.

I'm a long-time runner, though mostly trail, and I use a flip-belt. It can hold any size iphone and no worry about dropping it.

Just an idea!

Yeah, I need to be able to respond. Although at some point my morning walk moved to early AM hours so this is less of a concern than it used to be.

I would suggest you step off that sidewalk to use your phone. More Apple Watches and iPhones are broken on concrete but the number one killer is a ceramic tile floor.

Yeah, about that. I've broken a phone on asphalt and on rocks, so either side of the sidewalk, LOL.

SMS as well? Even though it's a different number?

Is the forwarding at the carrier level or a phone setting?

Sorry, jumping in. I get SMS messages forwarded between both my phones. No idea at what level that is.

It's built-in to the phone. SMS is forwarded to my macbook and, when I had one, my iPad. I had them forwarded for a while from my work-issued SE2022 to my personal phone, but turned that off after a while for non-interesting reasons. They are on different carriers.

So I would assume if you get a message via SMS, and you reply from the phone that's receiving the forwarded message, they're going to get an SMS from a different number than the default contact they have for you on their end.
