So I would assume if you get a message via SMS, and you reply from the phone that's receiving the forwarded message, they're going to get an SMS from a different number than the default contact they have for you on their end.
IDK. I can't remember the last time I responded to an SMS from my other phone. Normally the only SMS I am getting are automated messages that don't require replies.

I would be pretty surprised if you were able to reply from the forwarding number.

I really wish Apple and carriers made a multiple phone setup much easier and smoother. I would like to use two phones (using one number), but I’m too put off by things like not being able to send an sms or make a call from the correct number regardless of which phone I pick up, and having different text conversations and other things stored on different phones.

For me, I would use two phones for—a small main everyday phone, and a big secondary phone for certain occasions that I know I’m going to need more screen or battery or camera.

Yeah that would be ideal. I'd like to have one that has all my work stuff on it, and the other that has zero work stuff on it that I can use evenings / weekends.

battery or camera.
Perhaps that might be intentional. What you wish to do is either akin to device cloning or is actual cloning. And device cloning is illegal in both the United States and Canada. And probably in a bunch of other countries.

Hmm I wasn’t aware cloning was illegal, but I could see why it would be.
But also I didn’t necessarily mean a clone. Switching SIMs so that the number can only be used on one device at a time would be fine, as long as it’s easy and fast to do. I also want to make sure no function/information is only available on one phone but not the other (unless I choose or limited by hardware).

Yeah…it's a thing.

Scroll down to cell phone or SIM cloning fraud.

It might be allowed if there was some way to guarantee the functionality you're asking for (one phone at a time), but IDK.

It doesn’t have to be cloning. There’s Number Sync technology available for the iPhone+Apple Watch. Personally, I wish a similar setup was available for iPhone+iPhone.

It depends on who your cellular service is with. I have T-Mobile and I switched between 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max for a year. Go to settings\cellular\add eSim. I believe as long as both phones have iOS 16 or higher?
I’m on T-Mobile so awesome news. Do you have to pay extra?

Did you read what I asked? I never asked about an Apple Watch. I asked about the 13mini I already have. If I wanted to know about watches I would have asked about watches.
Sure, but you didn't write if you had considered that as a solution, since it would by far be the most logical solution to your meager issue. Sorry for trying to help. Hope your attitude improves in the future.

It doesn’t cost extra. I switched between 2 iPhones for a year (esim to esim), sometimes every week and sometimes once a month. It took a minute at most. You can’t use both phones at the same time, but you can certainly switch the esim over to a different phone and back.

If you don't want to swap esims and are looking for an instant solution and don't mind paying an extra $10 a month, you can get a Digits line where they will give you a physical sim for your 13 mini. The digits line is a separate number that is tied to your main number. When someone calls your main number it will ring the digits line as well and you get cellular service when you're out and about with the Digits phone.

I regularly switch between by 15 pro max and 13 mini for exactly the reason of working out and not having to carry the pro max in my pocket at the gym.

With T-Mobile, which is what I have, I do the eSim transfer within a minute from settings, cellular. Its really effortless. On rare occasions, it sometimes takes upwards of 10 mins for the line to transfer. The phone w/ the inactive line will show the number but say that it was previously transferred, you just click on that, click activate while the active phone is next to it, and the active phone asks you if you would like to transfer the line. you click yes and done. I love taking my mini to the gym but like to use my pro max for the battery and bigger screen on the daily otherwise; and I do this 3, 4 times a week without issue.

Are Multi Sim not a thing in the US?!

Like I previously said, I simply asked for another sim (can be an eSIM as well) and you can have up to 4 Multi Sim (with my provider) to use your phone plan on multiple devices at the same time. So when I get a call, both phones ring but when I pick up on phone A, phone B stops ringing etc. same phone number, same plan. Let’s say I have 30 GB of data included and I use 5 GB on device B, then I have 25 GB left to use this month on device A
