My series 2 I was able to receive haptics for maps but not for messages. Now I only see the option to change the level of haptic intensity. Am I missing something? Please tell me there is another way.

The iPhone does not seem to make you happy these days.

I do not remember you being able to set haptic for specific apps.
Steve Jobs would be turning over in his grave. The hardware is fine, they keep messing w iOS and making it less intuitive, it’s widely complained about. They are coasting on brand loyalty at this point. Unfortunately it’s still the best option in the smartphone world but Cook has left the door wide open.

You don’t remember being able to turn haptics off for texts but still have them for gps?

If you mean haptics for alerts, you can go under notification settings and change the "Sounds" setting for each app. This will enable/disable vibrations too.
