I'm loving by iPad, but have spotted a tiny dark spot towards the top left in portrait mode:

It's right in the middle of that macro pic. Looks to me (once zoomed in) like two red pixels have failed. What do you guys think?

I'm not thinking of swapping the iPad (the mark is minuscule) but just want to confirm whether it is a pixel, or something under my screen protector.

Well when looking at the screen normally, it does look like a tiny black dot. But zoomed in, it looks like as I posted.

Yup, looks like a dead subpixel or two. Not too bad to have one or two out of 9.3 million (3 subpixels per pixel) go bad!

When I tilt the iPad from side to side, the dot seems to 'float' (ie, doesnt stay in a fixed spot like text below it does) so I'm guessing it could be something between the protector and the screen.

Well, it got the better of me so I took my screen protector off and lo and behold - the black dot disappeared.

Should I worry about using a screen protector at all??

I have a front cover on my iPad.
