 Not only is it pretty slow, I also have been experiencing intermittent connection issues for an entire year in which, on some days, I can't stay connected for more than 5 minutes at a time. On the best days, it's an hour or two before it gets disconnected for a minute or two before reconnecting. Any idea how frustrating this is, especially when online gaming?

Alrightish?? I'd LOVE to have download speeds like that. Australia's internet sucks. I pay $80 a month for only 12gb download usage and I get 150kb download speeds if I'm lucky.

This was a good day. But this was over the wireless (which I use more than I do the modem).

You with Bigpond's ADSL2+ 12GB plan? I'm with the same plan for $80/month and I got this (over wireless). My normal speeds are around 20mbps download, so I don't know what happened there.

When I had a normal ADSL plan with Bigpond however, the speeds were ridiculously slow. Average was around 241kbps download.

Sometimes a little better sometimes a little worse

I pay $600 a month for 1mbps download, 256kbps upload. It does inlcude unlimited downloads/uploads with no fair usage policy (uncapped). That's what you pay when you live in a third world country. Oh well.

I have just normal ADSL. it sucks. I doubt I'll be able to convince my
mother to upgrade to ADSL+2. Bigpond does suck and I need a better wireless router, thinking of airport extreme.

dude get out of Bigpond ADSL quick smart! i used to have the same plan but now on Internode ADSL2+ Extreme with 25 GB for $60. Just tell Internode you want to churn from Bigpond and they will take care of it for you. only problem is it will take a few days.

nope 12 GB and he probably means 150 KB/s i.e. kilobytes

pfft internode is a rip! seriously why would you even>? go TPG!

the only ADSL2+ speeds i can get are with BigSh*t.. they own the exchange and wont let anyone else in.

on ADSL2+ i hit 17mbps download, and a crappy 700kbps upload.. hate it.

i am with bigpond! $100 for ADSL2+ and 20gb.. and ITS NOT EVEN WORKING! the modem has been flashing red for two nights now, i have called them up and chatted to some bimbo who couldnt even speak english properly (the computer auto answer fella was better then her) and they are "processing" the order. i am SO angry.

pfft! Internode ADSL2+ is awesome! good speeds, never had any dropouts and my 25 gig limit has no off peaks so use whenever and theyre based in my home city. also get awesome unmetered content like games.on.net which has PC game updates and HD revision3 podcasts, ABC iView, Majorgeeks.com (has mac apps), Sourceforge mirror etc.

my speeds

about right for my 48 db line attenutaion using this graph.

Hooray for ADSL1!

163 kB/s down and 28 kB/s upload.

And you know what...I've learnt to be patient :D

I should be getting ADSL2+ with TPG but I don't pay the bills. And I can't convince them to change.

I thought NY had better connections than that! Anyways, my speed below.

I have Verizon FiOS.

unmetered offpeak?? so what free downlodas between 9pm and 9am or something??

the only useful thing to me seems like sourcefourge, but the stuff i download from there would be minimal.. the rest doesnt look too interesting.

my speeds

your on ADSL2+ and you get those speeds?? that download is POOR.. you must be pretty darn far away from the exchange!

about right for my 48 db line attenutaion using this graph.

the line attention at my GFs is currently 47.3 dB (Downstream) 21.6 dB (Upstream), i still dont have internet! :(, but i am normally a bit lower then that.

im not even sure if i can get internode, ill see..

hahahahahahaha and i just checked out Internodes new "ADSL TwoPlus" plan, it goes through Bigpond! their prices are the same. what a rip.

Bit of testing for me....

Looks crap, but I'm a fair distance from the exchange. Mind you they (Zen) are pushing out ADSL2+ soon, so it should improve (probably have to update my router then).

The Max I can get for an affordable price where I live is 1Mbps with a shared ip (which is definitely not good).

So your connection is definitely more than decent.

nah its not unmetered, i just meant you get no dodgy peaks so you dont have time limits to use your data.

… the only useful thing to me seems like sourcefourge, but the stuff i download from there would be minimal.. the rest doesnt look too interesting. …

i download HD Revision3 podcasts like Diggnation and Tekzilla every week and it takes up a bit of data. also iView is good for missed ABC shows and im quite often on mac.majorgeeks.com (only Apple app updates are iTunes). you can also download Linux distros, Firefox etc from the Internode download mirror unmetered. its not brilliant stuff but handy.

my distance from the attenuation is 3.5km. i think the exchange is really old and the cabling is dodgy. nothing i can do except move, its the fastest speeds ill get without going fibre.

i just had a look at TPG's coverage map for my exchange and im in the green zone so my speeds are looking ok.

Two Plus i think is for rural areas (dont quote me on that). if youre near an exchange then the ADSL2+ Extreme plans are where its at, its just TPG has more data which is definitely a plus.

oh right, well thats good. only cheap crappy companies use peaks (optus and TPG for eg haha).

hmmm cant say i watch ABC THAT much nor use firefox.. but im sure the other things would come in handy, especially majorgeeks.com

ohhh ouch! thats a bummer man.. i think im around 1km away, so my speeds are fairly 'speedy'. but the exchange is old too, it sure could use with an upgrade.

i just had a look at TPG's coverage map for my exchange and im in the green zone so my speeds are looking ok.

i cant get anything but telstra on ADSL2+, lovely :) might go to TPG on plain ADSL because i could have 5 times the download for $30 less per month (or something like that). id be willing to do that.

i was under the impression that it became available at all exchanges that Telstra supports ADSL2+ (because it uses Telstra's lines and whatnot). they must have a contract going. same rediculous prices.

I has an idea. You mentioned that your current plan is $80 a month... the ADSL2+ plan for 12GB on Bigpond is $10 more, so you could tell your Mum to continue to pay the $80 a month while you pay the additional $10 a month. See what she says about that. :)

However, if your contract is nearly finished then I suggest switching to another ISP (Internode, TPG and Exetel are good) because Bigpond is so overrated.

AirPort Extreme is awesome. Speeds are just as fast on my MacBook wirelessly as they are with the main computer connected to the modem via wires. I highly recommend it.

EDIT: Here's my average speeds... other result was at 7PM (lots of downloads happen at that time). It's midnight now.
