Wow, lots of info going over my head

I'm sure though if I hang out on these forums enough I will pick up on what you guys are saying.

I have had the machine for a few days now, and I am completely in love with it :D

It is performing beautifully so far, and is doing everything I want.

This is a HUGE improvement over my laptop.

I am addicted to the whole Mac OS, and will never go back to PC again (unless of course I need a PC for certain things.)

I can't wait to get a new Mac! Hopefully in the next year or so. In the meantime, I think this is going to work just fine for my internet usage, and for my kids internet play.

The Flash seems to be working fine, but yes, some sites which are larger it does get a little slow or jumpy, but not bad at all. My kids are going to be very limited to their internet time, and which kid sites they can go to. I really don't think the flash thing is going to be an issue.

I think in the end I just like to look at the whole picture. We can't afford anything out of our pocket right now. To me, this is like the perfect deal for us. It will get our kids used to the Mac, used to the internet, and me used to the whole Mac OS, which I have never used before.

I am extremely impressed by how fast it is, and how fast I learned the OS. I was navigating around, setting up my internet, iChat, etc... within, literally minutes :cool:

This is a great introductory Mac machine for me and my family. It will be getting replaced soon, and hopefully even after that my kids will still be able to make use of it. :fingers crossed:

I really really appreciate all of the help. I unfortunately just don't understand anything about Mac, or the lingo and terms you are using. I am going to start researching and learning though. Maybe in a few months I will realize this was a stupid purchase, or maybe I won't. I don't have $500, or $300 cash right now to spend. It's just not feasible. It was an opportunity presented to me that I felt I couldn't turn down. So far so good.

And yeah, one more time.....I LOVE IT!

Congrats on your new machine! I still love the G5 line, it was (and still is) solid and fast for what it is.

If you ever want Windows again, your next Mac purchase will actually allow you to boot into it, so no reason to ever not buy Mac hardware again (other than price or wanting to build your own/control the parts in your system).

Lol, versus a screwdriver... But whatever :)

Plus doesn't the iMac take 3.5" drives? Cheaper, more variety and larger storage options available over the mini, which I believe takes 2.5" drives (I could be wrong on this, though, never owned a mini). Though SSD drives will make this point pretty moot eventually.

Congratulations!

Well, now you know why we're all "Macaholics" . . . ;^)

If you have more questions, just post them here - we'll do our best to get
you up to speed.

For now, if it works for what you need, then it was a good deal. Yes, there
will always be bigger/faster/prettier Macs to tempt you. But you have a
good system.

As I noted before, if you get to the point of having a lot of your photos on
the system, you really need to consider a backup plan. Hard drives do crash
and you need a way to save all your photos and applications so that you can
start over when it happens. Did you get the installation disks for iLife and
Office? You'll need those to re-install in case you have a problem.

Contact me offline - maybe Santa can help with the external hard drive
problem . . . ;^)
