Sorry, maybe I'm confused. How would I play it back any faster. It will be played over s-video or component since I don't have a fancy player.

I meant that you could use it, as you couldn't play it back any faster, therefore the times to transfer would be about the same with the G4/Macbook unless transcoding is involved.

Oh, ok, thanks. I think I just wasn't getting it.

And I'd be ok with it taking the same. I'm guessing since either way it'll record as DV it won't matter which one I use and it might be fun to do some basic stuff with the G4.

Great. So right now I'm considering this PowerMac G4 + 15" Cinema Display for $200 (DP 1.25 MDD FW 400). Guy says he can get me whatever software I want but I'm going to wipe it clean when I get it home. Hate that sellers try to make a buck off of software like that.

Anyway, I was looking on CL for Cinema Displays for my current MBP, just seeing how much they were, and I'm seeing quite a few G5s with a 20-23" Cinema Displays for like $250-$350.

Now I'm wondering if I should just do that. It's a bit more and I really don't need a desktop anyway. I'm just so tempted to buy one and play around with it and stuff.

Thoughts?

Acrylic or aluminum?

And it's gone. Well, at least it's not listed on Craigslist. I'll email the guy just to make sure whenever I'm able to get up there.

Maybe I should change the title of this to I really want a PowerMac G4!

Now there's one, $200, great condition, MDD, 1.25 DP, with boxes and everything...Just curious, how would this be doing video capture/small editing from VHS to DVD?

For what it's worth, I use a (albeit highly upgraded) G4 Digital Audio (about 3 generations back from the MDD) and have done many hours of video editing on it using FCE 4, so even if the MDD is a stock config my guess is you'd be okay doing straight DV conversion, and probably even "small" editing. How much RAM does it have?
