My friend at work might sell me his ipod 4th gen to me for 300$ cdn, its the 40 gig. is that a good deal ?

Sounds good at first glance, especially if you don't want color.

Things to know might include: how long has he had it / what condition is the battery in, and physical condition.

Also depends on whether your really need that much storage.

If you just want something for exercising, or travel, the new ipod mini or even the shuffle might work better for you. I find the 3rd Gen 15gb model to be a bit bulky for the gym sometimes.

I can't imagine needing more than 500 songs with me at any given time.

It is nice to have as a backup for all my documents.

also you may want to think - if you will only have about 10gb or so of music, would you want to use the extra space to back up work or as a way as carrying your work with you!
