First - would you call a $2000 price for the new (on Apple's website) MBP i7 2.6/512/16 with full AppleCare a good price? I have a friend selling his at that...

I'm a photographer (side hustle, but power user) coming from a 27" iMac and felt it was sometimes underpowered for the 5K monitor. This might have been related to having too many programs open, but it was a 2017 model and it just bottlenecked sometime. So I'm thinking about grabbing a 15" MBP and using the 27" Cinema Display I just got from a buddy for next to nothing. No, it's not 5K, but the colors are terrific.

16GB of RAM doesn't concern me for Lightroom, CaptureOne, etc, but for Adobe Premiere I'm a little concerned...I don't know enough about the tech end of things to understand where I might run into problems, but the 32GB RAM option for these MBPs is super pricey! YouTube people are all about the 32GB of RAM, but it's not like I'm rendering videos constantly, and using proxies should make the editing for 5-10 4K videos pretty doable, no? I'd love to expert thoughts here. Thanks!

What year? If its a 2018, I'd say yes, its a good price. That is around $600 lower than new.

Hi! 2018. The current model on Apple's website. Yes, seems to be $600 not even counting the AppleCare, which is like $300, no? My hope is to get a good MBP 15 and use it for like 1.5 years and then trying to recoup a lot of money on it because at that time the more powerful MBP 15s will be out with the updated GPUs. I feel like Mac users can fall into two camps: power users who rely on software performance for work, and people who don't even know what a GPU is, if you follow me 🙂

Yeah, apple care plus for it is around $350 or so. Forget off hand. So if it comes with that, even better.

Do you really need to ask if getting a 2018 MacBook Pro for under $1000 less than what someone paid for it is a good deal? Doesn't seem like a very difficult question to answer.

I purchased the 15” 2.2 ghz version brand new with applecare plus for 2000 and I thought my deal is good. You win🙂

Sorry. Yeah, it wasn't rhetorical! Just one peak on ebay and prices for Macbooks seem to be all over the place. To me, AppleCare makes a Macbook sort of new if it's in mint shape as the warranty is bulletproof..Obviously the battery is near-mint too. I'm also just wondering if my RAM will be a bottleneck for me. Anyone have thoughts on that?

What about 2017 MBP15, 2.8, 16/256
Just saw open box at local store for $1499. Authorized Apple Reseller

depends if its still apple care eligible
Since authorized reseller and return Apple will change the date. Had rep check the serial number on check warranty and no date listed since not assigned to Apple ID anymore. Looked like it went thru the open box check on the 2nd. If bought during holiday period could be as early as November 1
worst case I guess.

oh yeah that's a great deal then

I wish I could've bought that for $2000 🙁 . I paid ~$2600 for my base model 2018 15" + AppleCare+ . Oh well
Lol I think my deal was pretty sweet bought a mid 2015 back in 2016 with AppleCare for $410 from a “friend” that was dropping out. And now I’m sitting with a base model 2018 with applecare+ Thanks to Apple having to replace my unit for a defective screen.
