USB 3.0 is new, but is also more expensive and currently no Macs have it. it will come formatted as either NTFS or FAT so format to HFS+ using Disk Utility http://www.switchingtomac.com/tutorials/how-to-format-a-drive-or-partition-with-the-hfs-file-system/
