Get of the computer and forget about it for at least a week. OMG!
Last week all we did was wait. A weeks worth of waiting is about all I can handle though! Besides, this isn't my first so I'm not too nervous - yet.:D

FYI, Apple prototypes usually have red logic boards.

If it is indeed, Apple legal has a habit of nipping ebay auctions of prototypes.

The last one I saw, for the proto MBA, was won by some Russian guy. But then Apple called and they wanted it back.

Just to toss this in...

Once the product is released, why would Apple care if anyone has it?

Wow, I would like to have that Powerbook. Could you please be kind enough and tell us how much you paid for it?

He obtained it through a legitimate sale. If anyone would get in trouble it'd be the guy that ripped it off from Apple in the first place. Probably gone or moved into a different department now.

Unfortunately, the buyer will lose the computer and the seller may get in trouble for selling it.

Sure I've bought OEM computers with CPU engineering samples, but in the end, if you end up with a non-authorized for sale product, you can lose it.

I found a decoder online (German site I think) and it said it was built in Nov of 2005 and was the first built that week at China plant #8 or something like that - W8546001UTM

The 3rd digit of an Apple serial number is always the year (2005, clearly), with the 4th and 5th being the 'week' it was made in (so it was made in week 46 of 2005), which is indeed November :p

Sorry but I can't tell what those pictures are. Can you repost them or something.

They're zoomed up parts of the iSight and the PowerBook writing in the photos you posted. Basically the poster that did that is trying to accuse you of merely photoshopping the computer and calling you a liar...

I love prototype machines. I have come across a couple over the years. Not Apple, but some ruggedised portable machines in the early 90's. It's interesting to see what ideas the manufacturers think of that they later discard.

I notice on this PB/MBP prototype the LED for the iSight is clearly visible. Were early MPBs like that or did they fix that before production.

unless anyone has already said this i think this is just before Apple wanted to change the name of their computers to include "Mac" in them for the Intel launch. this must be just before they manufactured the final product with "MacBook Pro" written on it. its pretty much exactly the same as my gen 1 MacBook Pro.

pretty cool!

I want it... Now all we need is to find one of those PowerBook G5 prototypes! When you got it, was it running a Beta / Interim release of OS X? Or did you just go straight for a Leopard DVD?

Apple tried putting a G5 processor in the powerbook but that resulted in a machine with less performance per watt. I believe that's when they started to look elsewhere and ended up looking into intel processors. This could have been (probably is) one of those first machines they tested with an intel processor.

I am sure the name "powerbook" was probably one of the last things they changed about it, and that is why your prototype still has powerbook written on it. They wanted to make sure they had a capable machine before they even thought of changing its name.

Baby's on it way!

Baby decided to finally come out so I can't answer many questions but it came with Leopard already installed and from what I understand, Apple can be a little funny about their prototypes so I suppose I will have to contact them in the next couple of days.

Thanks for all the comments. Ill check back after Luke is finally here!

Congratulations on the baby!

Congratulations on the steal! $300 for a prototype! Amazing!! Put that aside, it could pay for the babys college someday!
