man, be careful.
I got taken on ebay buy a seller with 100% satisfaction rating, had sold big items in the past, been a member for a long time and had great email discussion with him and he even had a .mac email address.
I was out 1700.00. Neither eBay or PayPal would do anything about. fortunately, my CC company did a charge back.
I cancelled both the ebay and paypal accounts and will never do business with them again. It was a total nightmare.

Whatever I buy, it's either gonna be from Apple or an Apple-authorized retailer, whether it be online or in store, refurbished or brand new.

But, I looked at the photo gallery here and saw some 24" Aluminum iMacs, kinda drawing me away from the MBP :D

This might sound stupid [I have yet to step foot in an Apple Store], but do they sell refurbished models in the stores?

Some sell "returned models", usually at the end of the month. You have to ask or look around the counter for a discount table of some kind. I've seen boxes marked "buyer's remorse" at my local store a few times.

As hot as Apple products are now, I doubt they have many to resell. If something is wrong, they get returned to Apple.

Ah, I see. Well, I ended up buying a refurb 24", which was a DOA. New one comes in tomorrow, woot :D

there should be a police task force that goes proactively after these scammers and throw them in jail for 10 years.

but that seems not to be a police priority. maybe a privat nonprofit organization that goes after them with a baseball bat? well, not really a baseball bat but maybe sues them so that they end up bankrupt and harrasses them for money for ten years.

Scammers also like to hack accounts with good feedback and then list a bunch of mac computers or iPods. They usually use 1 or 2 day quick auctions and get the money before eBay finds out what's going on.

I havnt used the site you see talking about. Is there a way to report the seller?

Cheers.

Looks like the winner of the auction didn't agree to the terms of the transaction with him. Must be the google checkout thing.

I usually don't trust ebay or other sites unless they have an actual picture of the item clearly showing that they own the item. I actually got my own MBP from ebay a week ago...for a deal that was too good to be true to me...but hey it was true!

I think the very fact that you have come here with your initial post seeking advice and reassurance is a sign that your gut instinct is telling you that this deal sounds very, very fishy and obviously "too-good-to-be-true".

Trust your instincts!!

Ang :)
