Is this a sign of AirPods wearing out?

I have had the original AirPods since they came out. I never had them lose pairing till recently. In the last few weeks they often lose pairing perhaps a half hour into a run. I can re-pair them easily enough but wonder if anyone thinks this is a sign of old age.

I had that last year when the first version of iOS 13 came out but it stopped after a few updates. Would happen on the iPad.
