I have a 12.9” iPad. It’s not new. I’ve noticed lately seeing bright white spots at the bottom of the screen. Should I take to an Apple store? The iPad works fine otherwise. But the white splotches seem to be getting worse.

I have the same issue on my iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen, out of warranty now, went to the apple store here in NYC and they acknowledged the issue. They wanted to charge me $599 to replace it since I don’t have apple care+. They tried restoring etc in order to figure out whether it might be a software issue but definitely not.
In the end, they advised me to call 1-800-MYAPPLE, who told me that they only offer software support...

Any ideas on what I could do next?

Hope they can solve your issue, that looks like a lot of backlight bleed and it seems to be getting worse overtime.

We they are pulling you legs if they think ti could be a software problem. You will need to escalate to get action.

Email Tim Cook and politely explain the situation and that it's not to your satisfaction (be nice).

I am sure one of his senior people will reach out.

tcook@apple.com

I had issues with my 12.9" 2nd gen too (not light bleed) but touch response issues. They did not replace mine either. I wound up wiping and selling mine.

However in other instances, Cook's team have stepped in several times for me and made things right. I hope they can do the same for you.

Good luck.

I have a similar problem with my iPad Pro 12.9 only 14th months old, I have sent a note to Tim Cook, I hope they will change their mind, Genius Bar is asking for $600 to repair a manufacturing defect.

Hi

This IS a serious error on the IPAD Pro.

I bought an 12.9 model in March 19 2018 and after 6 month I got the lightbleed on the left side. Apple gave me a new machine - November 2018 - and now I am here today June 3 - just returned from Apple - with the same issue again but this one Apple says I have no warranty even if the machine is 7 month old.

I am sure this is a problem which should be a knowledged by Apple. Something is very wrong with that. I have written to Apple - and hopefully they will be back.

Did you solve this?

Going to the Apple store now. We’ll see what they do.

EDIT: Apple swapped it out for a new/refurbished one. No questions asked. :)

Lesson learned. Having experienced out of warranty screen defects with the 10.5” iPad Pro I decided to purchase AppleCare for my 11” 1TB iPad Pro with an overwhelming cost of $1,699.00 incase similar defects occurs.

Just to pitch in, I got a 2nd Gen iPad Pro in June 2017, and after 50 weeks it started to exhibit this back light bleed. I took it into Apple and mercifully got a straight swap, just inside my warranty.

Guess what, nearly exactly a year later this replacement is starting to exhibit the same issue again.

Clearly a product fault.

Exact same problem , 20 dots of backlight bleed on the left side of my screen. My ipad is in pristine cosmetic condition , and i always take care of it.

I hope apple make a recall for this one.

I had bad luck lately with apple... Gpu problems with my 2011 MBP, then faulty battery with my 6s iphone, also buzzsing noise with my airport extreme. and also popping sound on the screen of my 2016 macbook pro TB and keyboard sticking ( al mbp problems solved on warranty). And now this on mi ipad pro 12,9 .

AppleCare only gives you an extra 12 months

My iPad Pro 12.9 inch Gen 2 is just over 2 years old and 3 spotlight leaking appeared in the past few weeks.
This is not normal, it is probably manufacture defect. I have iPad Air and iPad Air 2 from many years ago, they work just fine.

My local Apple Store wants $599 to replace it, and added a deep scratch on the screen during examination, very nice.
On to the next step.

Well i have the same problem, but lesson learn ? bleeding problem ? and they clearly told me at apple that it was hardware related know problem but not under warranty ?

LESSON : Dont give them more business ! it BS at these price , its all over the internet ! ipad 2nd generation have bleeding probs ....

and they want 599$ to repair it ! look on youtube they show exactly what components is defect .

Should be a no brainer. Any normal person would have taken it back without making a post asking if they should or not.

My just over 2 years (and no longer under AppleCare) old 2nd gen 12.9 is just starting to show this issue. So far, I have one led that is shining over the edge of the screen. Between this and the touch response issue, I am very disappointed.

Hi all, just a cross-reference to another thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ered-by-warranty.2127615/page-4#post-27839421

We are gathering a decent amount of testimony about this widespread malfunction, hopefully somebody at Apple will notice.

You can also raise the issue in Appel official Community; just be careful of ‘how‘ you do it, because my posts on this matter were deleted and censored (they said my post was a complaint and not a solution ).
