Earth (for now)
I just picked up a used 2015 13" MacBook Pro Core i5.

Its battery was advertised as being in normal condition with just 29 cycles, which I had assumed meant it had been recently replaced with a third party battery. However, it looks like it may actually be a legit Apple battery. Is that correct? FWIW, the battery seems to work well, and holds a good charge. BTW, I was also pleased to see just how clean it was inside.

Definitely looks legit - it could have been replaced as part of a repair service or replacement and then the laptop wasn't used a whole lot, or the previous owner bought an OEM battery to swap it in.

Yeah, I'm now thinking that's the case. It likely was a professional new battery install from an authorized service centre, and perhaps they cleaned it at the same time. I guess I got quite lucky with this cheap used Mac purchase.

A legitimate Apple battery replacement on these computers would replace the top case which includes the keyboard and trackpad. Apple does not sell the batteries as a standalone part.

I see. That makes sense actually, because the top case and trackpad look brand new. There are zero scratches. The keys look like there may be slight usage if you look very closely but stand back and that looks new too, so that’s in line with the 29 battery cycles. In contrast, the bottom cover is visibly scratched in a few spots, and the charger looks several years old.

Given how good this looks, I’m going to spend a few more bucks and upgrade the SSD.
