Yeah, I googled and noticed that it might not be compatible and then I did read your reply which made me to conclude: it is not compatible :)

Bit expensive (considering how much the machine itself cost me) if you buy it from Macfixit or similar sites, shipping costs might also be very high. I can't remember when I actually needed optical drive last time, but for some reason it bothers me that I have fully working machine in good condition (for its age) and then there is one big component missing :)

Well since you already feel that you wont be using an optical drive anymore, you could consider just turning it into an additional harddrive :)

Yeah, when I was searching ebay I saw lots of caddies being sold. Then again I don't photograph or download movies etc. so I think I'll never use this 500GB to the max. I do have another 500GB disk which is currently being used as external.
