2.16 C2D
4gb rahm
300gb HD
graphics:ATI Radeon X1600:

i am thinking of getting this imac

Refurbished iMac 24-inch 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme

2GB memory
500GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory

how much of an upgrade would the imac be?

The only way in which you MBP out performs the iMac is RAM, and you can bump the iMac up to 4 GB. The iMac is a significantly more powerful computer. But if you still need portability I would not suggest swapping. You MBP will do everything the iMac can, just a bit slower.
