My fiance has this same laptop. She bought it a year ago brand new for $549. She has vista installed and it runs incredibly slow. I would sell you hers for that price in a heart beat. It might run better with the xp..
I would stay away from it. You would be much better off buying used white macbook with similar specs. They can be had around $549.

The track pad, mouse, and battery are ruined and the processor is a slow single core. Not to mention no returns.
Buy a new machine. If you want to wait around, I was seeing Toshiba Satellites on sale for $399 at Newegg but not this week. Sign up for their email offers.
If you are really set on a Toshiba just look at their online store.
