Is it normal for the download to take a while to start, its been like this for a while.

mine didn't take that long. probably about 15 minutes from the time i clicked download & install to the time it started installing.

I've restarted both the download and itunes itself, will it download in itunes 8.01?

iTunes 8.0.1? I downloaded 2.2 for my iPhone in 8.0.1.

That's weird. Is it your connection? If not, maybe contact Apple?
