I can't believe this thread has gone on as long as it has. this is basic, people. light goes both ways through a translucent agent.

I think the thing here is a lot of people are clueless about how a backlight is built and think the lights are really behind the display. They don't know the light source is at the edges and illuminates a translucent panel. Thus they don't comprehend why light would pass all the way through

Not all screens have edge back lighting, but you are essentially correct in this case.

It is normal. Try this... turn your brightness to zero. Now take a flashlight and shine it into the apple logo from the back of the lid. The screen will light up.

I'm writing this from my 2011 Macbook Air, which replaced my 2010 Macbook Air. Sometimes I prefer my 2010 Macbook Pro, or my 2009 Macbook Pro at work. Incidentally, none of them have the problem this guy is describing.

Only apple devices I have that don't do this are the iPad and the iPhone.
My macbook air 11" 2011 does it, the 13" 2010 does it, the 13" MBP does it, 2009 MBP13, the macbook 2008 does it, the 2007 MBP15" does it. (I have way to much, I know, but some of them are used by the folks living in my house that consider everything that has an apple logo on it to be a shared possession. Mind you, this is a one way sharing, their way :) :) )
But the air's show it most.
if you put a flashlight behind the apple when the screen is off, you'll see it clearly.
Stop pulling his leg.

NOT a problem

This clearly isn't a problem; it is just the light source that is sinning on the logo. The Apple logo is see-through. If you put your hand in front of the logo you can see it, because your hand will be blocking the light source. If you can't see your hand, or it doesn't go away with no light in the room, then I would worry.

Glad this is sorted over two years later :)

"Under certain lighting condition..."

Is this worse than the guy who used a pair of night vision goggles and saw light seeping from his iPhone and asks, is this normal? (an actual post)

When in the right light, I can see the Apple logo through my screen... I have a new 2011 13" MBA btw.

I'm really hoping this is normal but I'm guessing it's not.

Anyone wanna see if they have the same problem? Turn off the computer or put it on sleep, then try looking at the center for a big white fuzzy looking splotch shaped perfectly with the Apple logo on the back of the computer. If you can't see it immediately go somewhere with less light. Or you may just not have the problem.

I guess my screen was pressed too hard against the back during production or something? :p

edit: okay, so if I just get a black wallpaper or something I can't see it. Only when the screen's off. But, if I move my hand over the logo on the back of the computer you can't see it on the screen. Weirdness!

Yes, when I turn off my screen I can see the outline of the Apple logo on my mac.
