I have the black iphone and I'm looking to swap for a white one. My friend who just came from abroad is also looking to get an iphone (black) from AT&T.

Is it possible to reserve a white iPhone under his new line, pick it up tomorrow at the store, and swap out the SIMs?

The Apple Store was actually willing to exchange my black iPhone 5 for a white iPhone 5 outright, without any additional charges.

I was looking at the white phone in the store and holding my black phone in my hand next to it. I told the Specialist that I wasn't sure that I liked the black and he suggested that I exchange it. I decided not to, but the Specialist said it would not have been a problem. He said that he could even move my AppleCare purchase to the new phone.

I would definitely confirm this with your store, as I could have just gotten an overly helpful employee.
