Quite expensive isn't it? =[
[doublepost=1454176123][/doublepost]£999 for a used 17" 2011 macbook pro. Yikes.

Have you looked at refurbished Macs from Apple? A 2014 retina MacBook Pro is £1309.

Honestly I'd go that route. You'll get a computer with a full 1 year warranty and it'll supported longer.

Won't the 15/17 MBP be OK?
Size doesn't matter if the processor is slow. A core 2 duo is downright ancient by today's standards, some older models can't even run the newest OS X let alone a recent copy of Photoshop.

A lot of stuff happened since the core 2 duo days, my 2012 15" is roughly 4-5 times more powerful in raw processing power than my '08 15" with a core 2 duo.

I wanted a 15"/17 cMBP and yeah, those machines were good at the time/

Gotcha. I just have a hard time justifying those prices when you can get something 3-4 years newer that is lighter, faster, has better battery life and has a nicer screen. That being said, I will admit that I don't place a huge value on upgradeability, because it's a laptop. By the time I need more RAM, the CPU and GPU are going to need to be upgraded as well.

You're a light user, why not go with the 13" cMBP currently on apples refurbished site? It's newer, has a full 1 year warranty and can be upgraded. The CPU and GPU are decent and the battery life is ok. I personally wouldn't buy one, but it's probably the best compromise between what you're looking at and current rMBPs.
