I totally understand where you are coming from. But lets not forget, while these companies are actively looking to BEAT out iphone's features, they release them early, trying to get the jump on apple, and they perform very ...substandardly. Take for instance, my sister-in-law got the S4. She was trying to show me the new features like "scroll via your eyes" and "wave to scroll" etc....While they are awesome features, she couldn't even get them to work right half the time. Seriously.

That's where iPhone takes the cake. They make sure it is perfected upon release, and that the features work AS PLANNED.

Word of warning, I would wait out for the iPhone 5s to see what they have up their sleeve. Don't get me wrong, if the iPhone 5s fails to live up the the expectations, Apple is in deep doodoo. But I know apple, they are working on something...something that will allow them to say "Did you really think we were slackin over here in cupertino?"

I just don't want you to be locked in to a Samsung, Nokia, LG, then when the 5s comes out, you are going to have remorse for jumping ship. It's happened to me before. And I learned better.

That's one of the reason I am not leaning toward the new Galaxy.

Once again (and again, and again) there seems to be an inability to distinguish the meaning and definition of the concept of "opinion" from the meaning and definition of the concept of "fact".

So when new phones come out 6 months after the iPhone with some better specs, it's the end of the iPhone. Does that mean that when the next iPhone comes out 6 months after that with some better specs, it's the end of other phones?

Therefore, the mobile phone market would be at its end! 😀

I am sure Apple will come out with a phone that'll really be able to compete with the HTC-one/Galaxy s4. Until then I still don't believe the iOS7 or iPhone 5S will pwn HTC-one/Galaxy s4 in any way.

The HTC One’s display has a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels), matching most HDTVs’ resolution, while the iPhone 5′s display has a resolution of just 1136 x 640 pixels. The HTC One packs 45% more pixels per inch (PPI) in its display than the iPhone 5 (468 PPI vs 326 PPI). At the end bigger screen offers better readability for all ages.

Camera: The iPhone 5 camera is pretty good as far as smartphone cameras go, but the iOS camera app leaves a lot to be desired. One reason iPhone users download so many camera apps is because the stock camera app doesn’t do much beyond snap photos and shoot video, just like it has since 2007. Yes, Apple’s added Panorama and HDR modes, but users have to launch a photo editing app to apply filters or otherwise tweak photos.

If this phone is so good then why are justifying it to other people here? And no it's not the end of the iPhone because another newer phone is slightly better. You do realize apple updates it products.

I was very happy to find out from someone's reply in this thread that the iOS7 is being revealed soon (in June). Because of that, my mind has changed after this thread. I am willing to wait another month for that.

Surveys consistently show that users are more satisfied with the iPhone than any other smartphone. Specs aren't everything. Personally, I care more about iCloud/iTunes/app store integration (and my iPad/iPhone/Mac working seamlessly together) than any spec. But that's just me.

HTC One has:
Better design (hardware and software), better build, better screen, a camera built for all situations, IR Blaster, best sound quality on a mobile phone.

Good point. Ya... I've stated it in my earlier post that I will miss using iTune to sync if I really do end up buying a HTC-one. I am also a Mac user. You have listed all the reasons why I still didn't order a HTC-one yet.

Hi, I've been an iPhone fan for a long time and currently have a iPhone 4S but my 2 years contracts up so I am going to sell the 4S and get a new iPhone. Normally I would just upgrade to the 5 or wait for the 5S or the 6, but once I played with the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy, my jaw dropped... Those two phones are way better than what Apple can offer us right now in every aspects. Same price but you get a better product and more features.

I really don't think Apple will skip iPhone 5S and make the 6, the 5S will probably just be a small upgrade from the 5 with same size of screen... They can't still compete the 5S with the HTC and Galaxy... What do you guys think? Hopefully some of you can change my mind not giving up on Apple phones.

I did the same, flogged my mint iP4S and bought an S3, one month later I'm back to an iPhone, the S3 was nice but Android is a mess, it's soo hacked up and hardly works correctly most of the time. In any case I never thought I'd say this but I prefer the iOS notifications, nice phone the S3 but just FAR TOO BIG, and I have massive hands, it's not practical to use a phone with 2 hands all the time. I believe the iPhone 5 to be the perfect form factor, it's subjective I know but Apple found a sweet spot.

Coming back to iPhone from a Nexus 4 / Samsung S3 phone, size isn't everything....

Funny enough, I did the exact same thing after 4 years with an iPhone.

Picked up an S3 first. Was not a bad phone. Great camera. Found Android was very flexible but disliked Samsung's iteration of it and gimmicky features that only worked 50% of the time. Also couldn't see the screen in the sun which was a huge issue for me.

Sold the S3 for a Nexus 4. Loved vanilla Android. Found the screen dull and the camera terrible. Was also turned off that the first time I dropped it, I dented the plastic chrome border. Sold for an iPhone 5.

I'm glad I took the Android detour. Vanilla Jelly Bean Android is actually quite nice. It's very flexible too. For me personally, this is good and bad as I can't resist the temptation of playing around with it and ended up spending more time perfecting my setup than simply enjoying my phone. Blame it on my willpower rather than the platform; I could have simply used it as-is the same way I use my iPhone.

Not saying the iPhone is the only great phone out there by any means. Just found it interesting that someone else did the same thing.

Stating the HTC One's specs are better than the iPhone is fact. Stating the experience is better is not. I find that iOS better utilizes it's lesser resources better than Android does, not stating that as a fact but as an opinion. I have been using stock iOS since the 3G days and I enjoy the experience it gives. Same with my Mac, yeah I can buy a PC that's more powerful and cheaper than my MBP, but I would be losing out on the Apple experience, which, in my opinion, is better than Windows. I'm not saying Apple is perfect, its far from it, but I like it better than Windows and Android. I use the stock Camera app and edit the pictures on iPhoto on my Mac, but I use Downcast for my podcasts, Spotify for music, and Evernote for my notes. All 3 of those non-Apple apps are, I think, better than what Apple offers.

I also feel that smartphones, and soon tablets, are reaching a plateau hardware wise, and it will be the software that defines them. That is why I'm more excited for WWDC to see what iOS 7 and OSX 10.9 will bring than new hardware.

And I don't think that the iPhone will die/is doomed at all, at least not by another phone. If anyone will kill the iPhone, it's going to be Apple, by either a) **** it up so bad, no one will want one or b) Apple just discontinues it.

Honestly I don't think it matters. iPhones can be amazing if you put work into them and know how to do so. For the average person I actually recommend Android because most people just want a phone they can have a bit of fun with and text people.

Ya, not trying to change you mind, if you like the One, go for it. But I personally hate it. While everyone touts it's design, I'm disappointed by it, and there is a lot misleading to it.

First, it's sides are plastic. The One is not 1 piece (unibody), it's back plate and speaker grills are aluminum. And bear in mind they did not overcome signal penetrating aluminum, a flaw shared with Apple.

Second, I must be OCD, but I do not like how the sides slant outward as oppose to being just vertical or perpendicular to the front and back of the phone. It felt awkward to hold w/ 1 hand, but I can see the usefulness in handling it w/ 2 this way.

Third, for such a great design, it sure isn't horizontally symetrical... There is more bottom due to the capacitive buttons, and from a purely design point of view it is unattractive (most other companies don't commit this offense).

Android is now the biggest OS on the market in terms of smartphones, probably due to the fact that there is such a wide variety of phones out there and obviously with the iPhone there is only the 5.

At this moment in time the Android alternatives are clearly superior to that of the i5, but let's not forget that the i5 is technically old in terms of the rate new phones are coming out. I'd wait to see what the i5S is like and then make a decision.

I find Droids have a better out of box user experience. Don't get me wrong I'm a die hard iPhone guy, but most of iPhone's "Fun" comes from a jailbreak in my opinion. Either way they are both great types of phones, now WP and BB are another story.. 😉

I don't know where do you get the impression that iPhone 5's A6 chip is ancient and slow. iPhone 5 is actually the fastest smartphone even 8 months after it's announcement . Search Youtube for speed comparisons between iPhone 5 and htc one, and you'll see how the "ancient" iPhone 5 smokes htc one (and experia z and galaxy s4). The difference is also noticeable in graphic intensive games such as RR3, Iron man etc. Iphone 5 runs them buttery smooth, while the htc one and other android flagships have plenty of hiccups. So, saying the iPhone 5 and A6 chip are ancient and slow is light years away from truth.
As for the screen, the additional pixels of the one's screen won't be noticeable from your normal viewing distance (around 10"). Maybe you could see the difference if you stared at the screen from about 2", but that's just pushing it and it certainly isn't considered normal usage. Screen size is a subjective matter and you have all the right to want or love a bigger screen.
I agree that the iPhone's camera is pretty basic, but there are tons of other camera apps which can do much much more. (Camera+ for example lets you do pretty much anything htc one's camera can. Cortex camera easily beats other phones in low light for still shots). Other than taking low light pictures with slightly less noise htc one is no match for the iPhone's camera (or the other androids) in good light. (One more thing about htc one's camera - Forget about cropping, as even a moderately cropped image will show plenty of unwanted pixels).
IR blaster... really not my thing 😀 , but it could be important to you 🙂 .
I haven't heard htc one's speakers, but those are still phone speakers and cannot be that great (no (smart)phone speakers are) I wouldn't buy my smartphone based on it's speakers, because you can't really enjoy music to it's fullest on phone (without ear/headphones) 🙂 . For Youtube watching, and playing music when nothing else (car, home stereo etc.) is available my iPhone 5's speakers are good enough. But that's just me😀
