Why do you believe it will be aluminum?

Only because Apple has been on a "green" kick for a couple of years now and have touted aluminum as the most renewable resource there is for making computers.

Also, the addition of the plastic backing on the iPhone 3G was criticized by some for going against everything Apple has been making themselves out to be. Personally, I like the plastic backing of my iPhone. It looks slick and I've never had any of the cracking issues some have reported.

Wow!

Sorry Gizmodo

and of course to everyone who did not see it before....

Curtains up....This is the new iPhone :

I just hope this is not a render image. Does any one know if apple will existing 3g users an upgrade path similar to the first go round?

No idea yet. It'll probably be revealed at WWDC, and dependent on AT&T (or your service provider).

My guess is probably not.

With AT&T:

During the "first go round", iPhone EDGE owners were outright owners of their iPhones, meaning there was no subsidization as part of the monthly fees. iPhone EDGE owners could upgrade to the 3G (once it became available) at any point during their contract.

3G owners do not technically own their iPhone outright until the end of their 2 year contract, as a subsidization is built into the contract (which allowed the price of the iPhone to drop to $199 or $299). They will most likely have to wait until they are upgrade eligible, unless they want to pay a penalty fee (which will probably be the full price of the new iPhone and also sign a new 2 year contract).

that pic is NOOOOTTTTT the new iphone it has the OLD 3g symbol... so right there people..that is JUST a mock up.. and the screen isnt going to get bigger so stop getting your hopes up

And utterly impossible to use one-handed. How in the world would you manage to click the Home button without loosening your grip or breaking your thumb?

Mock-ups are pretty to look at, but some are just poor ergonomic designs.

I just tryed with one hand touching and pressing hard on the bottom of my iphone and wow it didn't fall out of my hand or anything... amazing what opposible thumbs can do

Did you notice that it's 2 centimeters less height then the iPhone 3G ?

Agreed

This is what I think all the morons on this site that complain about pixels want the new iPhone to be like! The new 10 GigaPixel iPhone lol.

Buy a real camera people if you're photographers. You don't need a $2000 camera to snap point and shoot pictures on a phone!

I completely agree with you. All the hype of phones with 8 or 12 megapixel cameras is a waste of time and space. Having said that a slight improvement on the current camera on the iPhone wouldn't go amiss but it doesn't need to be anything ridiculous like 8megapixel. 3 is fine or if they want to stretch to 5 great but it really isn't the selling point of the iPhone.

Personally if the camera is enough for somebody (or apple) to write the software for a business card "scanner" which even the old SE P1 had back in 2007

Regarding upgrades, and yes, I know AT&T is the best place to go for these answers, but here is my situation:

Bought iPhone 3G last summer, new contract.
Significant other's VZW contract is up this month, and she wants an iPhone.
Will changing my contract to a family talk plan allow me to purchase the new iPhone subsidized on the new line?

New iPhone

now that is sex!

I could live with this being the new iPhone. It looks slick!!! If this is accurate then Apple have managed to squeeze more display screen space without making the phone bigger or bulkier. Gotta love Apple but I'm getting ahead of myself maybe. Let's wait and see shall we but this definitely gets two thumbs up

Approximately 1/4 inch from where it currently resides.

Let's be fair, here.

With the home button on the edge, it can be pressed accidentally way more easily when it's in your pocket than the current home button design. Besides, it doesn't look like something Apple would do anyway.

Also, it's only a mock up photo. A good one, but still fake.

well

i don't really like how it doesn't appear to be rounded like the 3g more flat like the original but, :apple: for the win!!! :apple:
