I bought a used open box iPhone XS Max black leather case from a somewhat low volume eBay seller and I’m trying to determine if it’s a fake. What are the telltale signs? To me everything looks legit but it doesn’t feel like leather to me.

Does it smell like leather? It looks pretty legit to me. I just bought an off branded leather case for my X. It didn't feel quite like I thought it would (not as soft) but it definitely has the unmistakable leather smell.

Not really, kind of had a chemical smell. I don’t actually have my XS max yet so I can’t check the fitment. Should get my phone tomorrow from ups. I currently have an 8+ and 3 different original apple leather cases and this one feels different. I know the ones I have felt different now than they did out of the box but this one just feels different than I remember. I wasn’t sure if there was some sort of dead giveaway on if this is a knockoff.

Looks legit. New Apple Leather cases feel stiff and almost a little slippery. It takes some time and usage before they start to get a nice leather feel to them. I don't think you have anything to worry about here.

Cool, thanks.
