I have late 2013 rMBP 2.6/8/256

I use web browsing like YouTube, notes, mail, pages, preview, calculator, numbers, quicktime, and calendar mostly.

Is it time to upgrade or wait?

Thanks

I don't see how your current computer wouldn't be able to handle those tasks, that's like Chromebook level of computing.

Why do you want to upgrade? Just want something new? If so then get one or wait, really won't make a difference. If you're finding your computer slow then there could be something wrong with it.

As above hang on to what you've got, a new computer would make little difference to you unless it was all about size and weight or the need to run 4K external screens well.

Ok! Then I’ll wait. There’s nothing wrong with my current computer. Maybe it’s not as fast as day one but it’s fine.

Is there a way to make it faster?

I also don’t want to miss out on the latest and greatest features of the new models. I haven’t been keeping up with MacBooks lately.

you're not missing out on much... unless you need thunderbolt 3, and it seems like you don't. not to mention, Intel just upped the CPUs used in 13 inch MacBooks to quad-core, so you might as well wait for that.

WHAAAT? That sounds super exciting.

So when is the quad core 13” available?

The rumors are the new chips will available in late Q1. So in systems by end of Q2/Q3.

I’ll probably upgrade then.

I do hope there are some new features like True Tone, and maybe even a SUPER high res display coming.

That'll make the numbers extra crispy in the Calculator right!

Expect internal changes, expect internal changes every year. External changes happen about every 4 years.

Not sure many people would see an immediate benefit to quad or hex core though, in the long run yes, but initially I see it like the jump from 32bit to 64bit. Looks great on paper/marketing! Hopefully this will force software makers to utilise the chips. I haven't seen any stats on the possible mobile chips as they currently don't exist, fingers crossed for some performance increase however they'll probably lower the clock rate in order to maintain efficiency, so I'd expect maybe a 20-30% power increase, which is what we get every year anyway. So marketing right!

I wasn’t thinking about crispy calculators.

I was thinking about hot chicks lol.

Aren't they out already? The Razer Blade Stealth has quad core 8ty gen chips right now.

15 watt with basic graphics are yes, but the touchbar MacBook pros use 28watt with iris graphics which are a lot better even the 15 watt with iris graphics on the nTB are better than what are included on most thin light laptops. There is also talk of options with on chip amd graphics to come which would be a very nice boost with some vega cores added.

Edit: here are some tidbits on a desktop with vega graphics so they are coming it seems.
