Definitely 3.1
I have an Anker USB-C to USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable and it absolutely flies when connected to either my iMac or MacBook Pro.

I totally agree the Sandisk is faster but mark my words, give it 6 months and Apple will lock out it's competitors.
