Is using your iPad on top of a laptop bad?

I use my ipad on top of my laptop keyboard and my friend says this is bad for my ipad. Is he trolling me or does he have a point?

I can't imagine why it'd be bad for the iPad. If anything it's probably not great for the keyboard on the laptop.

If you have a Smart Cover (magnets) and a non-solid state drive, it might damage the hard drive, but that's all I can think of.

I very much doubt that the magnets in the Smart Cover are strong enough to damage a hard drive.
