I came from high sierra and I like the design and a lot of the new things. It just feels better. But hell, I've been having so many glitches and it feels so unstable compared to high sierra.

What's your experience, and what would you say, all in all, is Ventura a good OS or not?

Well, it's as good as Monterey, which was as good as Big Sur, which was as good as Catalina, which was as good as.. you get my point.

Mac OS updates simply build on top of each other, and really some of the only things are worth debating or complaining over, are the aesthetics.

I really miss the overall look of Leopard for example, but Ventura is a much better OS because of all the features it's added and improved on over the years.

I finished upgrading all my Macs to Ventura. I was wary for all the bug reports in this forum but in the end it has been rock solid for me.

Nevertheless, I find few great new features. I kind of like Stage Manager so far, though. The new Systems Settings requires some getting used to, but we can't help it. I still need to try Continuity Camera but the Studio Display camera is good enough for me. Live text in videos, I might use it some day. And passkeys are the future.

Ventura is a step in the right direction, IMHO.

That's not true at all. They constantly remove/change/re-do stuff. Some versions have objectively been worse and buggier than others. In no way are macOS releases a steady upward trend of constant improvement. More like a rollercoaster. Sometimes they have to mostly pause new feature development to focus on fixing what they have because things were getting off track (e.g. Snow Leopard, High Sierra).

Yes.

Graphical screen tears when battery is at 0% & just plugged in to power up, home folder being moved & not available when logging in, system preferences & storage preferences disappearing, cache not auto clearing to give free space back, that I can think of off the top of my head, there’s a few others but don’t come to mind.

I usually wait two to four months before upgrading my OS installations, but for Ventura I installed it on day 1. This is very unlike me. About 10 minutes after launching the install I was kicking myself regarding how I lost touch with the concept of "production".

In any case, Ventura has been rock solid for me. Never a kernel panic or weird behavior. No issues with any of the OS-provided apps, and no unexpected issues with 3rd party apps. Not even once. I judge it as the most stable and reliable operating system I have ever used. I would not hesitate to upgrade from older versions of MacOS.

Bullet dodged.

after struggling for quite a long time, I upgrade from 13. my 2019 16' MBP had random reboot under Catalina and Monterey, but no ONE random reboot after upgrading. I love this upgrade.

Literally just updated to Ventura this morning on my 2019 iMac - jumped from Big Sur.

So far so good, haven't noticed any issues (hope I didn't jinx it). Not a fan of the new system settings layout.

Sorry, but no. That Network/SMB-bug took too long to fix and really messed up work in the studio for us. This should not happen with an official release. Testing the Sonoma Beta on one laptop, I have to say that the current public beta feels more reactive and faster than Ventura.

I enjoy using Ventura, but it's quite buggy. If you're lucky you won't notice them. System Settings has some serious bugs with networking related settings.

Even some really mainstream things don't work. Like when using Time Machine to restore files. You can select "Restore to...", but it ignores that and just always restores to the original location. Hard to forgive Apple's carelessness.

But, for the most part, i just work around the problems, so I would say it's a good OS. It definitely wasn't a good OS when it was released since there were serious issues that couldn't be worked around.

I don't use my M1 Mini all too often, so take this for what it's worth, but Ventura fixed the issues I was having trying to use a Logitech bluetooth keyboard with it. So, I'm happy enough with it. Settings is a mess though.

Settings really is a pain point. Otherwise it’s fine. Haven’t noticed anything, anecdotally (ever, on Macs, actually - the same cannot be said for iPadOS where Safari regularly loads ALL of my Bookmarks then crashes, sometimes several times a day. Since I upgraded to iPadOS 15 actually. 16 fixed nothing with regards to that. Getting a new iPad just meant that I have two iPads exhibiting that behaviour. Induced me to use the DuckDuckGo browser)

MacOS has been very good for me overall since Catalina.
I wanted to like Stage Manager, but I'm better off without it.
I was bothered by the new System Settings, but since I started using its built-in search, I'm fine with it.

I feel the same. Every now and again I go back to it and enjoy it for a bit. Then I encounter some bug and give up. Usually the problems I have are due to multiple monitors. Yesterday, cmd-` was switching to a different application on a different monitor, rather than switching to another window within the same application. Before that, I had managed to get through a whole hour of enjoyment.

I put off stage manager for awhile and said, "Why use it?" when I can swipe up on my trackpad and get basically the same results.

But...decided to mess with it for awhile and once I got use to it, it seems to be a worthy addition to my workflow. I like the idea of being able to group windows together, depending on what I am doing and quickly switch back and forth.

I am not sure if it is a bug, but it seems like one if you use multiple monitors. Hopefully in the next update or Sonoma will resolve having stage monitor move windows around on non-active monitors. If you are working on your laptop monitor, I only want stage manager to move around windows on the current monitor that I am using, not all monitors. Have to adjust the other windows in the other monitors if I use stage monitor. is a pain. Hopefully this will be resolved in future updates.

Overall, Stage manager has its usage and kind of like it now after a few months using it.

High Sierra only got stable in its final major point release update (10.13.6). It was a hot mess pretty much until that point and even then, it didn't hold a candle to how rock solid macOS Mojave was. I don't know that it has ever been as good since Mojave. Certainly Catalina was a dumpster fire with the same kinds of glitches that you're complaining about with Ventura. Big Sur, for how transitional it was in many under-the-hood areas, was pretty damn close to being as stable. Monterey had tons of stupid bugs and Ventura, while fixing a lot of those bugs, introduced a slew of its own. It's not great.

With a couple of exceptions that I hope are to be ironed out before release, I'm extremely optimistic about Sonoma. It would be nice if they didn't break so much stuff from version to version. It was never this bad prior to Apple switching macOS to an annual release cycle.

I like it a lot. I was a Mac OS user back in 2011-2013 then jumped to windows. After windows 11 update I made the jump back to an m1 14inch pro and love this OS
