Does it already have the places you’ve visited over the years or does it start fresh with this release? It is. You can access it in Maps > Your account photo > Places > Visited Places. In there they can be broken down by area, type (shopping, dining, etc) and shown on the map.

That’s disappointing but would likely have been a privacy uproar if they had stored our locationsStarts fresh as far as I can tell
That's weird... It's not showing up on my side... Maybe it's a US only feature for now?It is. You can access it in Maps > Your account photo > Places > Visited Places. In there they can be broken down by area, type (shopping, dining, etc) and shown on the map.

Speaking at a workshop with EU officials and developers in Brussels earlier today, Apple's vice president of legal, Kyle Andeer, said, "We've already had to make the decision to delay the release of products and features, we announced this month for our EU customers." Users' security could be compromised if the company is obliged to open up its ecosystem to competitors, he added.
Tools such as "visited places" in the Maps app will not be available in the EU when iOS 26 is released later this year. Apple said it is still determining which features may not be available in the EU, and is working to find solutions to deliver them as swiftly as possible.
UK isn't in the EU, but I am surprised that would even be AI or proprietery, its hardly rocket science, Google Maps have had Timeline for years.Apple announced that it is not available in the EU due to the DMA. See:

Apple Will Delay Bringing New Features to Users in the EU
Apple will delay bringing some features to users in the European Union because regulations are making it increasingly difficult for it to do so, the Wall Street Journal reports. I suspect it’ll show up in the UK pretty quickly.UK isn't in the EU, but I am surprised that would even be AI or proprietery, its hardly rocket science, Google Maps have had Timeline for years.
Apple being mean back to mean-minded Brussels and I don't blame them.
I just downloaded and installed iOS 26 Beta 2 and I don't see any Visited Places section. Under Places, I only see Pinned, Saved Places, Guides, and Routes. I'm in the US. What’s going on?It is. You can access it in Maps > Your account photo > Places > Visited Places. In there they can be broken down by area, type (shopping, dining, etc) and shown on the map.

What the heck? Do I need to give it some time for the app to gather data since it’s “fresh”? Did that tab appear for you right from the get-go? My screen looks the same as yours, but nothing under Routes!
Does it hurt me if I'm on an iPhone 12 Pro Max?

Yes, I have been to places and I still see nothing. It was there as soon as I thought to go and check it. I'm assuming you have in fact visited places since updating?
Maybe? This could be one of those features they withhold from older models.
