The reason I'm asking is that I've noticed a very fast battery drain if I'm logged on to watch my remote ipcam at my condo and then go back to the main menu. Is the Safari page and logon still active after going back to the main menu? That is to say running in the background? Thanks

Yes, unless you quit the active page and leave a single blank white page open, Safari will continue to run.

FYI the reason no one here has responded for 2 hours is because typing your question into Google would have yielded you an answer much than signing up for macrumors.
