I see high potential for the VP. I want to use it as an external monitor when I'm traveling and need to work. That's going to be my primary use case. The entertainment value will be a big second priority.

However, initial impressions have all said that they felt uncomfortable after 20 minutes or so of wearing it due to the weight.

We know Apple loves its metal enclosures. One of the trademark feature is the external eye display. The glass and metal add a ton of weight to the device. Even without the battery, it's only 50g lighter than the Quest.

If I'm going to strap something on my head for hours, I don't give a damn about the metal enclosure, nor the eye display. I get that they wanted the eye display because they're trying to solve the exclusion problem with VR headsets. But once VR headsets become an acceptable behavior, I hope they get rid of it.

Hopefully, Apple will release future devices without metal and the external display and not be stubborn.

Yes, it is going to be a deal breaker for a lot of people. It's odd that Apple overlooked the one thing that is most important with a VR headset. Especially when Apple has normally been very good about comfort with their wearables.

Weight is suggested to be 450 - 680g.. if true that is much lighter than the Pimax Crystal, and slightly lighter than the Quest Pro. If a potential buyer has the opportunity to try one of these headsets out for comparison that would help get an estimate.

There’s only so much you can do when you want to pack that much technology in. It’s just a matter of physics.

The weight will kill this for me. I’ve tried Meta’s offerings and I can’t keep them on my head for longer than 30 minutes. It’s not that I can’t physically do it, I just don’t want to. Feels unnatural.

it's a 1.0 product, so expect issues, need to wait until gen 2 at least for it to be lighter

The Meta Quest 3 is 515g and I already find this too heavy to watch more than a 30 min episode of a show at a time (I don't notice it as much when I am playing games cuz you are more distracted by playing the game)
I haven't tried the Quest 3, but I have a similar experience with other headsets—I notice the weight more in passive experiences. And that's pretty much all that Apple has shown us.

Keep in mind weight distribution matters a lot.

Take the Quest 2 and Quest 3 for example.

They both weigh the same (in fact, the 3 is heavier) but the Quest 3 feels noticeably more comfortable. Only because it sits closer to the face and the weight is distributed closer to the head.

When you move your head, it doesn't feel like your face is weighed down--compared to a Quest 2. And it actually feels slightly lighter if you compare them head to head pun intended.

So in the case of the Vision Pro, even if it weighed the same as any of the Quests, what matters more is where carries that weight. Given the glass front, it'll likely be there. And that might not be so good.

As @dante_mr suggests, the real problem is likely that all the weight is at the front of the device. If you look at Pimax's Crystal, or the Vive XR Elite, the weight is distributed, with the heavy battery pack behind your head. I would be unsurprised to see a third party accessory that's just a weight pack to sit on the back of the headband.

Rumor is that they will introduce the Apple Neck or iNeck, yours for only another $1500.

A lot of these previews I'm seeing the demoers aren't wearing the top strap so I'm gonna await VR outlets like VR Oasis, Thrillseeker, and UploadVR for their reviews.

The real downfall is gonna be the price. $3500 is way too much for what little is being offered. They need to get that down below $2000 ASAP

seems like its because of the way the band sits on the back of the head. When early users used the dual loop, they said it helped considerably. But you know apple, its just a reason to upcharge!

remember, this is the "pro" version out the gate. Im sure they will release a regular, or SE version down the line (if all goes well)

I don’t have neck or shoulder problems with my Quest 3 at all, what bothers me more is the area around the nose actually and the weight it puts on my cheeks with it resting on them. I catch myself readjusting it constantly.

Wonder what end users will say about the Vision Pro in this regard

It’s not going to stop people with $3500 sitting around from buying one of these. So, no I don’t think so?

They didn't overlook it - this is as light as they could make it this generation.
