Is wireless charging bad for battery longevity? I use the samsung convertible fast wireless charger on my iphone X and I notice my phone gets pretty warm when it charges.

I wouldn't say it is bad... You probably won't notice a difference in a 2-3 year ownership. I use wireless charging with my 8+ and the phone can get warm especially if I'm charging under 80% but it doesn't get "hot" by my definition. Batteries today can handle a lot more abuse than they have in the past.

But technically, yeah, plugging it in vs doing that warm wireless charging is "easier" on the battery. Will you notice a difference in 2-3 years? Probably not.

If you're worried about it, use the 5w brick with a cable.

I'm pretty obsessed with my battery and I don't worry bout it, but I do most of my charging between 90-100% and the phone never even gets warm when charging between those percentages. I've got a wireless charger at work and at home and my phone spends a lot of time sitting on the wireless charger.
