I shall contact apple. it froze typing this and safari is all i am running!

Touchpad and Keyboard freezes in MBP 15.4/2.4/2X2GB/320/SD/GLSY AGU

On September 6 2010, I went to an Apple Retail Store to buy a MBP for my sister. Serial ends in AGU.

The shopping experience was by the first time "traumatic" at an Apple Store... I had to got there 3 times in order to buy it!

First time I was ignored by almost 3 hours (after being said that someone would take care of me... I was paying cash that time cause I had to fly soon overseas) At the second time my payment could not be processed (my non-us bank's fault, ok) another couple of hours lost.

Finally got the MBP on a third trip to the Store and in about 30 mins, no pain ... apparently.

After the initial setup the trackpad and keyboard stop working, I tough... "ok, weird", maybe an installation bug, I did not really use the MBP that day.

Other day after booting I'll let it update itself with the Apple Updates, then after another restart I installed things like iWork, CS3 Suite, Chrome, Firefox, etc... not attended the MBP really at that installations cause was doing other things in my own older MBP, let the stuff install and then the installed SW updated by itself (CS3 and Adobe stuff).

Other day wanted to see how much difference exist betweend my old MBP and my sister's new an shiny brand new MBP... and OMFG, got it again! weirdly the keyboard and touchpad where stuck!

If I closed the lid, let it stand by and then try to use it, some times the problem will disappear.

Finally took it to an Apple Authorized Retailer and Technical Service (overseas) place just to find out that is "a problem with the Motherboard" as they said and they would take more than a month to get a piece to "repair it".

I browsed the forums of course, some will say it is EFI, firmware stuff, but this new MBP is updated "to the bones", and I do not have time to do more research.

So... back in USA, today I'm heading to an Apple Store Genius Bar to get it exchanged or fixed... probably will waste another hour or two of my life in the Apple Store. I hope not... I made an appointment.

I had a lockup problem with my 2010 MacBook Pro i7 purchased in early September; however, after reinstalling OS X from scratch, the lockups have now gone completely away. We have two of these i7 MacBook Pro's; my wives, purchased in April and mine, purchased in early September; both experienced the exact same lockup issue with the GPU until I rebuilt them. The patch did nothing for me on my late model unit.

Yes, i saw the other forum about freezing issues and mid 2010 mbp's... but looking for some clarification:

has anyone bought a mbp since August or this month? - not talking about mid 2010 releases (april)....

have you had freezing problems?
do you have an i5 or i7?
fixed with the EFI 1.9 update?

tell me your stories...

I want to get a new 15" mbp (probably i5 due to the poor reputation of the i7's for freezing...) should i wait, or has Apple sorted out the bugs on the new ones rolling out..

I really appreciate your comments and recommendations - spending 3k on a freezing computer is not high on my priority list... but i like apple :D

NO FREEZING on my 2010 MBP...I got my in May and works like a swiss watch...:)

Mine was one of the first ones I could buy in the store, however long ago that one. No issues. 8GB ram and aftermarket Corsair SSD.

What do people think is causing this freezing issue I hear so much about?

No issues at all (except since the last patch of WoW... but that isn't because of the computer).
