I'm close to getting an iPhone but really don't want to sign an 18 month contract with a service provider (O2) I don't like.

So, I'm considering staying with Vodafone and getting an unlocked phone. What do other iPhone users have and what are your experiences?

Neither, using non-iPhone AT&T prepaid plan (no contract) with a jailbroken but still locked phone.

my iphone is genuine, not on a contract, unlocked, and on o2 pay and go. all is well with it.

I've got a 1.1.2 Version BL4.6 Jailbroken and Unlocked on my Orange Contract.

If I have to pay for a phone I want to choose my service provider and tariff.

Jailbreaking seems like a must if you want to install extra software/tweaks etc. Otherwise its a bit like having a computer but never installing anything on it!

Especially when there's all those nice people out there writing such great free software that they are willing to share!

Mine is unlocked, jailbroken. It takes less than 5 mins by ZiPhone

just bought it yesterday.
_____________
iPhone 8 GB

i jailbroke my phone on 1.1.1 ... with the jailbreakme site. but reverted with the 1.1.2 update (and now 1.1.3). i just found it to be more trouble than it was worth.

I love bondage and love being locked down by att.. I would never dream of doing anything master Steve doesn't want me to do.. in fact, I call him sir! LOL, seriously though, never hacked or jailbroken my iPhone.. can't complain with how things are going..

LOL my son cracked the screen of his iphone yesterday, so bought him the new 16G and took his cracked on a member sent me the unlock app...and unlocked it....now doing another...IF ATT was no so crappy where i live, i would be good but now loving t mobile......
