I've recently been hearing stories about YouTube not being kind with its users.

A personal example includes a family member who uploaded videos for the past year, almost daily of his daughter (my niece) playing @ the park and birthday parties, etc. However one day the videos disappeared and YouTube permanently closed the account, along with all the videos of my niece growing up. Admittedly he should've kept a backup in an external or something, but YouTube just closed the account out of the blue. My uncle assumes because a video or two may have contained copyrighted material.

On YouTube I also saw a video explaining something about account not used in 2 years are automatically deleted (acceptable though) and vids with less than a thousand views will get deleted after a certain amount of time.

The truth is I'm asking this question because I myself am looking to upload videos and want the security of knowing they aren't going anywhere and before I create a YouTube account, I figured i'd ask the community as to their thoughts about this.

I guess my search continues to find a site to upload...

...Perhaps Vimeo? :apple:

Why not just upload them to your computer... Youtube is not a home movie storage cloud, it is a site for users to share videos... So if your videos get deleted and you didn't have backups then it is your own fault...

That being said I am sure Youtube had a reason to delete the account, They are not some evil company out to ruin people's home movies....

Copyrighted material is one of the biggest reasons for deleted videos and closed accounts.

YouTube has the most users, hence videos there get more views. But "kids in park" videos get buried and get very few views. If the video is just for your friends and family, then YouTube is great for sharing.

But also remember to always have a backup of your video on your computer or external drive.

Just my two cents.
