I opened the MainMenu.nib file from Disk Utility in interface builder and noticed something very interesting.

Under the file menu, there is a "Connect to iSCSI target" menu item!

The menu item must be hidden by default. I'm guessing there is a "defaults write" option to re-enable it. I did a cursory search with strings and grep, but I didn't see anything obvious.

Anyone have any ideas on how to enable this hidden feature? It was there in the pre-release builds and was thought to have been removed. However, it looks like it is only hidden.

It might be interesting to try out the native iSCSI initiator in Leopard. Two of the major open source NAS software projects support iSCSI (FreeNAS and Openfiler).

Are there any inexpensive iscsi products available to consumers?

Cheers,
